Former League Players With Car Yards

Postby Look Good In Leather » Wed Mar 28, 2012 3:20 pm

How many former league players lend their names to car yards around Adelaide, I came up with the following:

John Cahill (Port) - John Cahill Motors (Klemzig)
Graham Cornes (Glenelg, South) - Graham Cornes Toyota (St Marys), Graham Cornes Used Cars (Medindie)
Peter Page (Central) - Peter Page Holden (Elizabeth)
Wayne Philis (Glenelg) - Wayne Philis Ford & Kia (Christies Beach & Reynella)
Brian Thredgold (South) - Brian Thredgold Cars (Brighton)

Bob Shearman had one (albeit for a short time) on West Terrace in the early 1970s.

Great thread! I think KG had one, do umpires count?
I looked through some 70s Budgets recently - pretty sure I recall an advert for a Knuckles yard but could be wrong

A former west player from the 1970's reunion (name eludes me for the moment) has a substantial dealership in tasmania - will edit and add when his name comes to me unless someone else can jog my memory first

What I'm curious about is - is this a South Australian thing where ex footballers have operated car yards - or does the same thing happen in Melbourne and Perth as well..??

Pretty sure Ken Eustice had a smaller yard on South Rd at Richmond, yet the land it was on was compulsorily acquired for the works for the extension of the south rd connector through to the bakewell bridge? - After the works were completed I think it was re let as a stone shop or something similar?

John Cahill Motors on North East rd seems pretty popular and they expanded their site into next door a few years ago.

Am looking for a photo of a "John H Ellers" Dealership Sticker for one of my restoration projects! I rang Hamiltons and sadly they don't have any pics, there is a good market for replica dealership stickers on feeBay, but mostly they are from interstate bar Smiths of Adelaide which are available readily enough, also looking for a Freemans of Adelaide Sticker Pic to copy also!
