I reckon CP is right on the money here. As far as I know these are the two biggest comebacks (rather than turnarounds) in league history - amazing that it was the same two sides in the same season. In Rd 7 at Footy Park, Sturt came from 64 points down, 4.4 to 14.8, and won by 12 points; and then in Rd 16 at Unley, Centrals trumped that by coming from 72 points down at 2.6 to 14.6, to squeak home by two points.

Rd 7 Footy Park
ST 0-3 8-9 13-13 20 15 135
CD 7-7 14-9 16-13 18 15 123

Rd 16 Unley
CD 2-2 8-9 14-17 20 23 143
ST 9-5 15-6 18-11 21 15 141

Sorry it's taken me three years to reply

That is amazing.

No, not the comeback, but the fact that a football records book - one produced by a Victorian radio station, no less - contains information about any league other than the V/AFL.

Thinking about this, I recall a Glenelg v Sturt game at Glenelg some time in the early '80s when Glenelg was in front by 40-odd points at one stage but ended up getting done by about the same margin. Only other thing I recall about the game is that Jim Lihou was playing. Spelly, did this happen or has my memory gone dotty with age?

I mwas there too, maybe 1982 ?. Reckon we were up 8 goals to 2 at 1/4 time kicked the first one of the second and then Sturt went mental. I was only about 10/11 so memories could be wrong, but in the club after the game there were a lot of people wanting halbert sacked. Nothing changes :)

I reckon this is the game you are talking about (EDIT: sorry just read your post more closely, you were talking about a game where Sturt come from behind to win! Anyways, the game below is a great turn-around!):

1986 Escort Cup Final score Glenelg 12.7.79 d Sturt 11.12.78

Three-Quarter time: Glenelg 2.4 (16) Sturt 11.9 (75)

I saw Grenville Deitrich turn around once in an SANFL game. That was a great turnaround.

Was just about to say there was a night game at Adelaide Oval maybe 5 years ago - North v Sturt.... I'm sure the Roosters trailed by something around 9-10 goals at the half as I wanted to go home.... The great man Ben Hart was moved to the wing after half time and wreaked havoc.... The noise from the North cheer squad at 3 qtr time under the old scoreboard was deafening - clearly remember Andrew Jarman taking them over there for the 3 qtr time address and they went ballistic!!! Thought some of them were going to jump the fence!

It was a great night. I think we were down by 58pts part way through the third. Locky was going mental during the 2nd qtr and at half time went over to the north race and gave them a spray. When we were coming back he was yelling "Give us an R". He was so excited his pants kept falling down. One of the funniest games ever. Topped off by a sturt cheersquad member and ontherails having a wrestle on the hill. Great night.

Cheersquad member. Tried to stab a couple of people with his flag when he walked past. Lucky most of the guys were too busy giving the players a round of applause and didn't see him.
