1983 Grand Final

I was wondering if anyone had the Budget from that game and could scan the players, team lineups etc from the budget like Wedgie did for the 1991 GF onto here.

I'm a Sturt fan, but I was hoping that West would win becouse of their 22 year drought.
Channel 7 broadcast this game live into Melbourne and my most vivid hilight was
Peter Mueret's goal early in the 2nd quarter.
Left forward flank/pocket, got a left footed kick under pressure, I think he was being pushed
at the time. Set up Westies' ten goal second term.
Since I've been following SANFL footy(mid 70's) I consider the 1983 West side second only
to the 1980 Port team.

I can't see myself hoping the Bays win the 2008 GF against North because they'll have a 22 year drought.

I would probably feel differently if they were playing Port, just as you feel the same way against the Bays.
My point is that sometimes I like seeing unsuccessful teams get up.

Since I've been following SANFL footy(mid 70's) I consider the 1983 West side second only
to the 1980 Port team.

Westies was a great team however the lack of any sort of follow-up in the seasons that followed 1983 sort of put a question mark (in my mind) on it's status as one of the best of all time. Taking 1983 in isolation tho, dominated that season in an era when the Bays, Norwood and Port were usually all over everyone else, so they would definitely be right up there.

While we are on the topic, the 1985 Glenelg team is underrated IMO and would give the '83 Bloods a good run. Carey, Hall, McGuinness, Kernahan, McDermott, Marshall, W Stringer, A Stringer, Salisbury, Duthy, Gibbs are some names that come to mind. Any comments from the Glenelg guys?

My criteria is to isolate one year and analyze the statistics.
Its always hard to judge each team player by player and comparing them to other
premiership sides.
I wouldn't put the Bay team of '85 above the '83 West side because they finished 3rd at the
end of the H&A season and only went 14-8.
A bit simplistic I know but its more difficult to argue with facts.
Comparing teams is a lot more interesting though.

With that sort of argument you'd have to rate Sturt 1978 higher than either West 83 or Bays 85. I mean, only 2 losses, and one of those by only a point....

I rate the Glenelg 85 side as one of the SANFL's all time best. Would have been competitive in the VFL of the time.

Up until this game was played I followed Sturt but wasnt passionate, just a kid who liked Sturt and liked footy. It was during this game that I decided that every other sanfl team sux and Sturt rule. I am still not over that loss.
