Anything to do with the history of the SANFL

Bloody hell watching those highlights (1982 The way it was) proves Sturt are as protected by the umpires then as they are now....
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Haha, for some reason Duthy starts celebrating when Porplycia kicks the goal! What the....?

If you watch the goal umpire he makes a fair bit of ground to his left which left Duthy thinking that it was a point. Disgraceful decision by Charlesworth what hope did McDermott have of getting rid of the ball. it was actually pinned to him by the Port Player and was very close to a high tackle.

another silly comment from AM Bays, when has sturt ever been protected from the umpires. Glenelg get looked after more than Sturt or even Centrals do.

Exactly!!! 2009 Qualifying final Tony Dey screwed us over in the dying seconds.

God corrected this with the Preliminary Final a couple of weeks later though ;) ;)

I love how people think their teams are either protected or conspired against by the umpires!

Terrible decision - ranks with that d*ckhead umpire Ball in the SA vs WA State game for shockers in front of goal when the game was on the line!

If the quote re Chalesworth defending the decision is true (and I am not doubting your version or memory) then that is an even bigger disgrace and he should never been allowed to umpire again at league level.

Also Mal - lighten up!

Even though my club benefited from that decision, that clearly is a ridiculous thing for an umpire to say. You'd hope it was said in jest only.

Looking at that decision again, it was even worse than I remembered it.
As has been said, that and Mike Ball worst decisions I can remember that changed the result of a game.

Gotta be one of the worst decisions of all time. He almost blows the whistle as the ball lands in McDermotts hands.

So Glenelg made Grand Final from Elimination that year, is that correct?

If so, how far out of top 3 did they finish - it wasn't 1 point, being what this draw cost them, was it?

I stand corrected David Granger did play in this game it was his first for 1982

He was suspended for 6 games not sure why we played in round 4 unless preseason games counted or Escort cup games in the preseason.

He kicked 3 of Port Adelaide's first 4 goals but fell out of the game later.

72 points!

North had a % of over 50 that year.
