OK the suspension seems harsh from what I have heard but the Board is there to run the League and administer rules that I would be sure are voted on by the clubs.Even if the rule was introduced by the Board clubs surely could resind the decision at the next delegates meeting and I don't believe this was done so rule stands.
Any problem with the rule change the bloody rule dont be bloody minded and play a suspended player.
Throw the book at them they deserve every penalty coming there way.
I would suspended the player for the rest of the season and fine the club $5,000 with a further $5000 suspended if they breach rule in the future and take the final away from them they have been allocated for this year.

dont take this the wrong way, but your opinion is a joke. you should join Bushy on the board.

Tend to agree with Sambo. Maybe the original penalty was a little harsh, but cant believe Herby and Hamley think their bigger than the league. Probably deserve whatever is handed down to them now. Dont think taking points away from them will really hurt.
Are hamley now loosing the plot under barnett, silly decision to play heberle, now taylor suspended.

So what was the outcome at the tribunal last night? the suspense is killing me...I might have to actually do some work to take my mind off it

I hardly think you can say they are losing the plot under Big Red...I cant see how the Taylor situation is related in any way to the Heberle decision. I would think there would be some other clubs in the league that would quietly be patting the bombers on the back for standing up to that ridiculous rule

That's a curious situation. Why are the tribunal commisioners/directors/delegates/adcocates (cross out whichever doesn't apply) grandstanding on this case? Did they give a valid reason I wonder as to why they needed to sleep on it before announcing their decision after a bacon and egg McMuffin this morning?

The board interviewed the club executives. Then the executives left and they formed their decision.

A decision has been made, I don't know it yet as the board will wait until the club knows before I do, which would be courteous I guess.

OFFICIAL: HBFC/Heberle verdict

$2000 fine - suspended until end of 2012

Heberle suspended for one match

HBFC loses invitation to host second semi final.

Host club yet to be announced although I believe it could be at Long Plains

i agree with most of this, but to lose the right of hosting a final is very harsh

Just my opinion but I reckon this wasn't as bad as it could have been.

Effectively, the club hasn't lost any money, only the opportunity to make some and Heberle will miss one week, which he should have missed anyway (according to the league).

I would think the opposite. Most clubs would be laughing at the stupidity of Hamleys actions. The rule is one thing, but playing a suspended player deliberately is just amazingly stupid. You have to question the intelligence of the coaches/committee at Hamley that made the decision   .

PS I wonder how the penalty would have been different if Hamley had won the game on Saturday.

Coming in a bit late on this one, But It sound slike the League has taken a Very firm stance on this one, However Going back to the Original indiscretion, When Players make themselves unavailable for The League side, they are given the opportunity to explain to the Tribunal the reasons behind it, and I can tell you that even with the most concrete of reasons for not playing they will look to punish the player..
Sorry people I only deal in facts!

There was the opportunity to challenge the decision, the club has 72 hours I reckon to convene a tribunal, and I think it costs a few hundred bucks too.

If it had done so, with the lack of time between Thursday and Saturday, the league could not have possibly punished the club (IMO), for playing Heberle.

Then the tribunal could have been held, the decision made either way.

The end result probably would have remained the same, Heberle to miss one week, but the Bombers could have retained the final and not incurred the suspended fine.

That's all speculation of course and I have had the time to look at the options available and weigh it up against the punishment, something the club officials probably didn't have.

At the end of the day, the meeting wasn't about whether Heberle should have been suspended, it was about the club ignoring the league directive.

Regardless, I think the rule will be amended come the pre-AGM later this year.

Im thinking this a common theme amongst some of the committee at Hamley, just total incompetence, with this on top of the Nelson saga
