Re: SA Churches & Community Cricket Association 2012/2013
PV Proposed rule changes:
1. Tighten up laws about player club movement so that a player cant leave a club owing money, miss a season
and then come back for another club within our ass. and dont pay their debt to the previous club
2. Change the name to " South Australian Amateur Cricket Association" to reflect more strongly on our
association and its members
3. Introduce a two division T20 competition to be held after christmas. 6 minor round matches then semi
final, grand final. the proposed dates have the comp. finishing at the completion of about round 10.
Free agency for this comp. so that you can play for another club if your club doesnt have enough players
to enter a team, without the requirement of a permit. Although you can only play for 1 other team per season.
also the idea of this is to help host clubs raise some money for their club by holding a BBQ and opening the bar ect.

Sounds like the go Cuzzy, coz if I'm only gonna be good enough for the PV c grade this season, I'll need one of those free agency permits coz we don't have a c grade..

24 16/03/2013 SF SF Sat/Sun
25 23/03/2013 GF GF Sat/Sun
26 30/03/2013 GF Reserve Day
The second option has Saturday Sunday finals which we think are well overdue, the first option doesn't have them (but then has no reserve day for the GF). Basically it tries to gets as much cricket in the season as possible, with two day games before finals and one day games at the start (where we typically lose a week or two for rain) and either side of xmas (where getting players for consecutive weeks is a little harder).
I had to leave halfway through the meeting last night (work), so if someone could post a summary that would be great.
Wow, add in the t20 comp to the above and trial and pre season competition games, chance to play around 25 games, hopefully if I play all of these games I can reach 50 runs for a season for the first time in my career

Will dick Marshall put his hand up to play in these matches or his contract remains to only play in one day matches because of his hectic book promotion (book is titled - "There is an i in team!) schedule he has planned?

Obviously interesting times ahead for this comp.
Do admire that some clubs have put forward their ideas to brighten up this comp and ways of recruiting more players. However in a comp that looks like losing possibly 3 clubs for next season, and other sides struggling to recruit players, I don't see how the answer is 'Let's play more cricket more often'. I understand some people and players have great passion for the game as I do, but from the make up of our side (a premiership one too) that a lot of our players would be turned off by more cricket.

Re: SA Churches & Community Cricket Association 2012/2013
Long time follower first time poster, although many of the regular posters will question that but I'm not here to debate that issue with them.
I am posting at last to discuss the proposed changes for the coming season. Like Cougar I applaud those putting in the time and effort, I know the intention is to improve the competition. My initial reaction to some of the proposals are that they will do more harm than good, certainly when I consider what it means to my club (Rose Park). So I'm posting some of my thoughts to see whether others can change or sway my opinion. We will be having an AGM for our club to discuss all these prior to the competition meeting. We will certainly be represented and putting forward our clubs views.
1. Increase the number of playing days. This will deter some current players at our club and potential recruits. The 15 days plus finals has been a draw card for us, we have found it makes our league more attractive than others for that reason alone. We have some players that made that clear when they came to us. **Edit** I forgot to add that we would be highly unlikely to field a T20 team for a 6 day + finals comp held on Sundays. We struggled to field a team for 2 Sundays last season (for the SAMCA T20 comp). However there would be a few free agents from Rose Park if this goes ahead.
2. Changing the format. If we move away from 5-5 (but keep the same number of playing days) some teams will get a more favourable draw, on that basis I'm not a fan.
3. Bonus points for retained wickets. First and foremost I'll make it clear that I don't like the bonus points full stop, but this one concerns me more than the current ones. I'm not saying I haven't tried to use the bonus points to get an advantage in the past, but that doesn't mean I like it! Bringing in this change can only promote teams to play defensive cricket under certain circumstances (I can't see how it would ever promote more attacking cricket). Surely we would prefer a team to go down swinging than to block out trying to gain some bonus points?
Finally I'd like to put out there something I thought of last night.
Keep the 5-5 (or 15 playing day format) but start the regular season 2-3 weeks later to reduce the size of xmas break. Then have a pre-season type T20 comp for those first 2-3 weeks with the "free-agency" type arrangement suggested. This would provide a great opportunity to attract new players to clubs and the competition in general before the start of the regular season.

Re: SA Churches & Community Cricket Association 2012/2013
last time I looked we play cricket on a saturday ? true.... why would you want to play less games in a cricket season ?
the more you play the better the comp becomes, you may have a bad start to a season ....so if you dont play many games then half way through the season you might as well pull the pin or start playing in lower grades so you might play finals....
but if it is more games being played then you still have a chance to make finals ? IMO.
we play cricket to enjoy a saturday with mates and the odd one or two players actually play because they are good at it, so why wouldnt you want to play MORE GAMES.
if you dont want a long season or too many games then play indoor cricket.......

Re: SA Churches & Community Cricket Association 2012/2013
Have to say I agree with your notion that more cricket could possibly be detrimental. The sub rule was brought in because players found it difficult to commit to 2wks of a match due to external commitments such as work, and the economic climate hasn't improved any since the rule introduction. In fact I'd say it has considerably worsened, putting further pressure on families trying to make ends meet. Good onya Gillard....
With additional commitment required from players vying for spots in the preparation for this years National Championships, the last thing we want to do is over-saturate the calendar with cricket. I am fully aware this will only affect a smallish percentage of the entire competition and shouldn't be the be all and end all for the program make up, but at the end of the day one of the main reasons why players compete in community cricket associations is due to other external commitments, whether it be family, work or other, otherwise they'd be playing grade or turf cricket.
FWIW, I like the idea of a slightly later start and less break over Xmas/NYE. Just my opinion...

For the reasons put forward by GH. My wife already complains that cricket is too demanding and I don't think I'm alone in that. There are those that play footy as well. For them a competition with less cricket days than turf or other comps is attractive, I fear that adding more cricket will make it too demanding for them and we will lose them.

Re: SA Churches & Community Cricket Association 2012/2013
The reason why we came up with this T20 comp. idea is mainly because i have about 6 or 7 guys that want to play but work on saturdays.
Also because as a cricket club it quite hard to raise money and i thought this may be an avenue. At the end of the day your club doesnt have to
put a side in. the format we have proposed it has a B grade game starting at 11 and then the A grade game starting at 230-3. This way your only
committing yourself for 3 hours, compared to the CUSA format where you play 2 T20's back to back. which obviosly defeats the purpose of the
smaller format style of the game.
Its just an idea. It might not work for us but it might also encourage new players that like the idea of playing only in the T20's, which will bring
revenue to your club.
But as i said its just an idea and if your club doesnt like it thats fine, just vote against it.

i like the idea in theory, dont know whether id want to play but im sure we'd rack up a team or two. Gives the c,d grade sides a chance to play 20/20 too. Maybe 6 games is a bit too much ???

I agree, fundamentally its a good idea and potentially provides an excellent avenue for attracting new players.
Regardless of the format I have no doubt some of our existing players will be interested, hopefully not at expense of the Saturday comp!
If the Sunday format goes ahead then I hope it might also provide an opportunity to give a game to guys who miss out on a Saturday (on the rare occasions that we have too many players) but that would depend on how flexible the T20 sides can be, i.e. could a free agent play for more than one club to make up numbers etc!?
In the end, whatever format it takes its better to try and fail (or try then tweek it next season!) than not try at all.

wouldnt work.......
if the idea goes through for the t20 format, who do you fine and what club game do you miss....
I mean......if I play for NEK on saturdays but decide to play for vista on sunday in the t20 you cant fine the club because I play for nek in normal matches and only play for vista in t20....as for the match ban ..well same would apply...
or ...you ban me for one match for vista which in fact I would play for NEK anyway......confusing but you should get the drift.

For the record I support a change to the association name too. I like the name proposed and agree it better reflects the competition.
Are there any items to discuss player behaviour (and attire?) based on the issues that arose last year? In my opinion the "unsocial" (to put it very mildly) behaviour I am referring to should be stamped out of the competition. I think it is a more important issue than changing the format or introduction new bonus points.
