I think it is time that the association look at flinders proposal of playing some state league games out of kilburn football club.

At the present moment the northern suburbs are being neglected as a source of future expansion for the competition. In my opinion letting an opportunity like this pass would be plain silly

The association has definitely looked at it, but there are certainly more factors involved. I believe the following things are major items holding this item back.
- Playing at Kilburn would take away the association's major source of income (the bar)
- Costs involved with moving trainers & groundskeepers
- Loss of potential significant grants from the GAA that would allow for an upgrade to St Marys (one that would allow for potential Australasian Championships to be played at St Marys)

All of these things would also put upward pressure on registration fees for the clubs.
I am one of plenty up North who makes the drive down to play, so if the player has the desire to play, they should still be able to make the trip once a week.

Bar Takings a major source of income both times I did the bar this season it was $150 profit

The proposal put forward would require no groundskeeper and Flinders were willing to foot the cost of a trainer

The "Grants", I have my doubts that the GAA in Ireland would hand over 1000's of dollars to South Australia given the small Irish community based here as compared to the Eastern states.

Here is a question for the Forum, with Mitcham moving out I would argue this places more upward pressure on fees, and that the league should be looking at sponsors to ensure club costs remain resonable.

The Gaza 7 a side comp proved that there is significant interest North of town, but only diehards like you and me Milky are willing to make the trek year after year to St Marys......Gaelic is missing out of gaining new clubs IMO

INCREDIBLY DISSAPPOINTED TO HEAR OF MITCHAM FOLDING

It is vital that we find, create, make, facilitate an 8th team prior to the commencement of the season so as to not undo all the hard work that has been done in building our association. Whilst there are 12 possible social 7s teams who might be able to think about stepping up the only viable option i see is a current SAAFL/SFL club stepping in to fill the void at such short notice.

SMOSH, Kenilworth, Brighton, CLG are all clubs id put forward as potentials due to there current State League reps. There is going to be a big unflux of super talented minors to make up the numbers and if there is a club that can be competitive but lack a few numbers id suggest they give it a crack as im certain concessions will be made to facilitate the entry of a new team to ensure we have the 8 team format (Ideally 10 one day) and avoid the dreaded bye.

When does the Gaelic Season run from. By that when does it start, and when does it end?

I know of an 18 y/o who plays Aussie rules, but wants to give the Gaelic game a try in the off season. Is that possible?

If so where should he go. Lives in the Adelaide hills.

Appreciate any help on this one.

The league is always very keen for new players. Apart from the Irish expats, most of the teams are made up of Aussie Rules players in their off season who wish to keep fit. Some top level SAAFL & the odd SANFL player graces St Mary’s during the summer.

Season kicks off the weekend of October 19th/21st. Games are played Friday night or Sunday afternoon (gaelic football is the greatest hangover cure ever invented).

As for clubs, there is 7 great state league clubs going around, contact details for these can be found on the GFHASA website.

On Saturday the final decision will be made by Kenilworth if the Kenilworth Kookaburras are to become the 8th team. They have 10 blokes keen for State League will be given a group of the SA under 18s but will require a few other lads to put their hands up and make the jump to State League. Im looking at you "Big Fat harry" and some of the other Steve Irwin Allstars. Ideally a State League team would want a squad of 25 with 21 kitting up each week. Great chance for a few blokes who have shown a bit in the 7s to make the jump to State League.
