I heard Freeling weren't prepared to pay what O'Sullivan was asking for, to play and coach.

Donnies did have a chat, but was asking to much and wanted to fly players in each week, would not have worked to what they wanted.

Be hard for a club to survive with the points system in play if they lose 17 players...

An exodus of players is always the product of the preceeding year when players look to any excuse for biting the hand that fed them.

Unproven coaches find the job at willaston insurmountable, so the donnies have made one of their smartest decisions and signed the best available bloke who has seen this charade many times and will be able to guide them through to a competitive level.

Popular or not Occonnor just needs the offield support and the results tend to follow, 1 door closes another opens so a cleanout of blokes who wont train wont do it any harm.

I agree. Ocker will do a good job.

All these posts about Willaston going belly up are rubbish. Ocker is one of the best at preparing a club/playing group to be successful.

Look at Barossa Districts and their continued success.

You can bet O'Connor will have Williaston playing good football this year. The guy knows no other way, other than to recruit the best players, who most importantly will be at the club for all the right reasons, and not for themselves. Has a great way of discarding those who wont do the club and team things, that premierships are built on. Some have already been moved on, and discarded. Has good points left over to attract high quality players, and will they will be around the mark. Will have work to do in catching Tanunda (15-1 minor round), and Barossa Districts (eventual premier), but their recruiting is limited due to a lack of points. Williaston finished down a bit last year, after playing finals with nearly the same side the year before. A great coach like O'Connor, can turn that around with the right players, who he will undoubtedly attract to the red and blue.

Never, ever, ever under estimate Ocker, or he will make you look absolutely stupid, as he has done to many people before. Only those who he has made look repeatedly silly, would or could knock him.

Did a terrific job with Kilburn when they were a powerhouse in D1, and premierships only eluded him because of a massive injury toll in the finals, to key players over a number of seasons. In short he had very little luck. Took over Barossa Districts, who had not won a game in eons, and saluted with back to back flags. Barossa Districts have also prospered since his departure as well, with the way he structured the club and taught them to be successful.

Beware those who knock him, as he will come back to bite you on the arse.

Sounds like he would have been the man for the Power Job.

On another note, i drove through lyndoch grand final day and was astounded with the amount of people there. I have been around hills central and country football and div 1 and 2 in the city over the last 7 years and i would have to say that was the biggest crowd i have seen at any game.
I would say the league is up there as most exciting in S.A.

Always a great day during the finals and on grand final day, in the Barossa. They certainly know how to put on a day out, with the netball and football finals and massive crowds. Well catered for and just a brilliant day.

Been to other country grand finals over time, and they are also well organised community events, with the emphasis on community. Whilst the SAAFL standard of football is much higher than the Barossa, - an actual day at the football is significantly better, and grand final day in the Barossa is that far in front of the SAAFL D1 grand final, that it really is not even a contest. The SAAFL could certainly learn something from how a Barossa GF is organised.

They'd want to think about getting some quality midfielders, King and Hill won't be around forever...
