whats peoples thoughts on meyer shield this year, any new faces/young blokes worthy of a spot or will it be the usual suspects garrard, elliot, butler, nash, wilson etc etc

would be great to see the association field a really young side filled with chambers and co. the kid can play! but for this to happen they need to make themselves available. maybe Richie Overarm to captain this young side

my mail has bloods suspended by his club for 2 weeks but then played on the weekend? not sure what was going on there? and also banned from SAFooty.net by his club. not sure if theres any truth to this but maybe some our pt elliot friends could clear this up?

we have had some glorious posts from old bloods over the years, but hey its all harmless banter.

Hopefully Elliot can get back on track and have a win soon, good bunch of lads, seem to be struggling in A grade though, Yank seem to be doing well in B grade, maybe a relegation could be on the cards.

Here is a synopsis on the season so far according to ladder positions.

TOP 4 AT PRESENT

Encounter Bay:-
Deserve to be top after a good win against the Vale earlier in the year, flag favourites at the moment, have good depth in batting and bowling. Lintern, butler, moules, overall and Hoffman are great players and as good as any in the league. Should finish in the top 2 and be in the GF,

McLaren Districts:-
Having a good season at the moment and look mosty likely to challenge Encounter Bay for the Flag. Have some great young talents in Altus, Naine, Bradley and Chambers is a gun, mixed with experience veterans in Ifould, Curtis and Wilson. Will be contesting a top 2 spot.

Willunga:-
Having a modest season the reigning premiers, Lead by Elders Minnot and Elliot, can fire on a good day, Elliot is the big key wicket, but have good bowling stocks and quite a few all round cricketers. Will be hard to press for top 2 after not getting the outright against Goolwa but on there day are dangerous and winning from 4 last year showed this.

Mount Compass:-
A danger side with Nash and Num but not as good as past compass sides with the Easts, Braidwood and Green. Have some young talents in cox and Hicks, but would need to produce more runs and get quite a few wickets to make the finals.

NON TOP 4 AT PRESENT

Rapid bAY
Look most likely to push into the top 4, Bennett is on fire and is Batsman of the league at the moment, just needs some help, williss is capable and Captain Wickham bats way too low. Trapolino is a reasonable all rounder and Patterson and wright bowl with good pressure. Need to land a big fish to complete in the TOP 4.

Aldinga:-
Have been disapointing this year so far, but losing players to all parts of the GSCA has helped this. The garrard brothers are always big wickets and Kay is a welcome player back to the club. Need to string some wins together to make it, but dont wrtie them off with veterans in Parkinson and Schoefield bowling tight lines.

Port Elliot:-
Have been the shock of the year, many were predicting big things from elliot this year and have been let down. Vic Robertson is having a good year but has no back up in the batting, there bowling on their day is one of the best in the league, donaldson is a gun. Need a lift from Mason, H. Robertson and Goldsmith to be competitive.

Goolwa:-
without evans has been a disapointing year, but Kuss has been a standout and Lawrence and Jones provide good back up. Putland is a welcome inclsion. Need some more efforts from some of the seior guys.

Interesting observations there WiW, like your work.

Looks as though there is 4 teams in contention for 3rd and 4th spots. Encounter Bay definites to finish top 2, and with McLaren 4 games plus percentage ahead of the currently ranked 5th team, you'd expect them to make the finals.

Rapid Bay have got a critical next few games if they are to challenge the top 4. With games against Willunga, Elliot, Aldinga and Compass, their chances of a finals berth hinge on their next 4 rounds.

Compass have a challenge in their run home with Elliot, Willunga, McLaren and Rapid Bay as their next 4 encounters.

Willunga arguably have the toughest run home with Rapid Bay, Compass, Enc Bay, Mclaren and Aldinga their next 5. If they're not careful, they could easily drop most of those (could win most also)..

Aldinga, after Encounter Bay this week, have Goolwa, Rapid Bay, Port Elliot and Willunga. They're certainly still in it...

Should be a good last half of the season.

how good is aaron bennett. 500+ runs before christmas!!! whats the record for runs scored in a season? does anyone know? because im sure he will be giving it a nudge come march. also noticed that richie overarm is currently leading the wickets with 19. not bad for a bloke turning 107 early next year. is there any stopping this man? i wouldnt have thought so! Victor Robertson making a few at port elloit also, always shown potential and is now starting to deliver and the ever green person trainer sandy num around the mark with runs and wickets. could he steal the compass COY off nashy? if only appeals counted towards such awards, nash would have it in the bag 'HOWZAT!!!!'

Goolwa made 88 and Bays were 1/70 off 6 overs and then rain got to heavy.
Bays won the match easy on compared run rate after 5 overs.

Hey fans Merry Christmas to ya all!!!! Ok OK heres some of my rubbish to finish off the year!!!!!

Heard that Noarlunga and Co. are thinking of having another crack at getting into the Great Southern, due to the fact that Southern was falling apart!!?? Clearly they didnt get the message... Anyone else hear this!!??

Once again Compass waz a no show in the 'Fuller Cup' on the Sunday but there was quite a crowd at one stage in the game....pity after a postive start by the home team, all they saw waz a certain batsman leaving the ball with 5-8 overs to go!!!!!! mmm.... I think the old...well older fellas in that team are on their last legs!! Transition!!! Dice isnt finishing rolling yet though....

Oh and this 'Sandy' stuff has to stop right now thanks, 50 push ups to the clown who put it in the book for Tonys bowling Sunday

Um what else, Encounter Bay blah blah blah, Compass know all about flying early!!!! , (..just a little nib there).. and whats with the clapping when i take guard!!!!!.... Tease someone your own size!!!!

Bays are a monty for the flag...have got alot of talent, Mc laren,s have the right mix of youth and veterans, but come finals experience usually wins, do they then have the depth? Willunga are certainly around the mark, plenty of bowlers and as we know nothing is impossible with that club. Compass have to make it first.., and im sure they will pull through and have a final crack with this squad. Nash to retire with nothing left in the tank after many big seasons and Num to go to the land of the Chopper

Said before Bennet does'nt seem to get credit for his work, hope he plays and makes runs in the Meyer Sheild!!!!

Would be more worried about the lack of good batsmen there wiw, Curtis and Altus are the only ones making consistent runs !!

Dont think its a matter of batsman's ability in the team there RB, matter of batting out the overs some of the lads arent in the best of Form. You dont sit 2nd on the ladder through lack of batting ability through your middle order.

Doesn't matter who your playing... catches win matches and when you drop em even the best sides can come un done!

Bit early to be already claiming a top 2 finish WIW24. McLaren are a good side but Goolwa haven't come close to any of the top 4 sides this year until McLaren. Wouldn't get too ahead of yourself, as we have seen in recent seasons pre xmas form counts for very little come March, just ask MCCC.

Can anyone seriously see any other clubs challenge for a top 4 spot. Mt Compass, even though they aren't as strong as previous years, are still a fair way ahead of Rapid Bay and Aldinga.

Good call HD, think a few of the lads may have "Under-Estimated" their opposition on the weekend. And will have to play better than this to match the top sides of the comp.

Goolwa will win a few on the run home, bowling stump to stump and respecting their wicket will surprise a few teams!.
