anyone ever booked through the website wotif.com?

when i'm looking for places to stay, i use the website to browse for hotels, but then i usually just call them and book over the phone, never actually booked through the website.

the thing i'm most interested in about them is there 'wothotel'. they dont tell you the name of the hotel, all they tell you is the suburb the hotel is in, no name or address for it, and what features the hotel has. these rooms are usually at a massive discounted rate, and was wondering if anyone has ever done this, or if it was worth the risk!

EDIT: here is the sorta thing i'm looking at. a 5 star hotel for $134 a night sounds pretty good to me.

while i'm here, may as well ask how you all find and book the cheapest flights and accom.

cheers people

I've used wotif for one of those mystery hotels for a night in the city, got the Grand Chifley on South Tce and all was good.

To book hotels, I use http://www.tripadvisor.com.au if it's somewhere I haven't been to get a gauge of what others think of the place, then when I find something I like, I check http://www.hotelscombined.com, which finds the best rates of various discount sites, and I see what I can get for that particular place.

Or if you have an Entertainment Book, use the gold card and check out what rates you can get, depending on what hotel chain you are looking at.

also, after you book the mystery deal, do they tell you straight away the name of the hotel so you can look it up to see if you like it/its suitable for what you need?

I booked a 5 Star in Melbourne once and they sent me to the Hilton South Wharf. Never stayed in 5 star accommodation before or since but I couldn't fault it.

Only issue I had was rather minor as I didn't have a credit card at the time but a debit mastercard they charged me $500 for room service and would refund the difference on checkout. The peanut on the counter forgot to give me my cash and I forgot to ask, the shift manager called me when I was in Southern Cross railway station chucking my bag into a locker for the day so I had to go back and collect it

Once you have booked and paid they will send you details of the hotel and the name.
You cant cancel or get a refund.
If you click on the mystery hotel it will tell you what suburb it is in. Thats usually all I need to know.
Once I find a hotel in an area I want I just book it, never had an issue and use it regularly when I go to Melbourne and Sydney

There is a way to work out what the Mystery Hotel is before booking it. Look at all the features offered by the Mystery Hotel and then look at all the hotels in that star-rating section and match the features.
Having said that, I have never been disappointed by their Mystery Hotels.

Cheers
