Hamley got off to a flyer with virginia missing goals and not getting clean ball movement which cost them lucky for virginia greenwood went down with a hammy so that freed up young who then went in the middle and changed the whole game if virginia had had been a bit closer they could have won but once thier ruckman went down it was going to be very hard, was haseldine injured looked a bit ginger on a few occasions, seen he was put down back on big nik which was a good move by Red standouts for hamley Hanson and Thach virginia standouts were young and johnston, in closing very ordinary umpiring as well the guy with the hat needs to have a good hard look at the rule book

Agreed it was a cracker of a match Tah. Don't worry about the listed best for Hamley - all those blokes were good, but Valor Thach BOG on the day by a fair margin. Only issue I saw for Hamley was they got touched up in clearances - particularly in the centre. May be fixed when Armstrong comes back in. Have to agree with you on that particular umpire. First time I've seen a "chopping of the arms" paid in country footy and a couple other free kicks seemed to come out of nowhere. Ah well, he can only improve. :?

we lost clearances when hebs went out of the ruck . there was no back up ruckman poor Ashley natt had to fill in. and while natty was an excellent target up forward ahe clearly is not a ruckman

I reckon if he gave up his pies he might be able to jump higher

Two Wells losing key positon players has taken it's toll the last 3 weeks. Full team against Virginia and Balaklava resulted in wins. Still we were 3-4 last season and 4-5 games behind Mallala in second, it's only May no panic buttons yet

While I agree, no panic buttons yet, it has to be said the losses by the Roosters last year were games they were winning and lost late by a much smaller margin. The margins of defeat in recent weeks and butchering of the footy (wasn't a problem against us mind you) are great cause for concern in the Rooster camp.

In the same breath, HB, United and Mallala are good sides. I really like Joss DenEngelse's quote last week. If you're not on your game, you will get beaten. TW haven't been on their game. Simple as that. As to why, I'd imagine Kcco and MH might have some suggestions. Lee Allmond would be one major factor I would imagine.

The games we lost to Virginia and Mallala last year were close games through out the day but the losses to you blokes were after giving up significant margins. The first loss to Hamley was almost triple of our total losing margins put together last year.

Losing Lee doesn't help as he's probably in the top 5 in the league when fit. Being a defender down, key forward and ruckmen doesn't help at all especially against Mallala with that quality forward line.
Interesting to note being the interchange stewert on Saturday Mallala made almost 50 changes to our 8ish. They rotated most players outside of their forward line. Good situation to be in

so you only played with 18 on the ground? I watched this game and it lloked like you had 21 Players.

Not sure if your being serious Pink bits, What I mentioned didn't suit up for the game. Did lose Spiteri during the second from a spear tackle that was it.

Definitely not a ruckman but does know a good pie(s) when he eats one.

I wonder if the cash splash can continue for more than a drought or two? Plenty of rain last night though :)

Plenty of rain where LC?

Kadina had about half inch (same as me :) )

I hope it doesn't rain next year on ANZAC Day so the players get wet..

Thanks MH. I will let him know. He loves trying new things on his long government lunch breaks. Visiting the "Pie and Perv" in St. Peters is an old favourite.

How is everyone seeing the umpiring standards so far this year?? Gee wiz they were ordinary at Two Wells on the weekend. They are just so insistent on having an influence on the game, rather than just doing their job and walking off the field unnoticed. Surely that has to be the goal of all umpires.

Yeah, as a defender I always feel aggrieved by the umps and I accept they're trying their best etc but wow, the standard hasn't been great to be honest.
I hate to be critical of them as they're so important to the game but so many matches this year, I've had opponents comment how bad they've been in general, for both teams.

Mind you, I really like Tallboy's umpiring and BJ was good on the weekend, just a few of the younger lads aren't catching that drift. Not sure why. Perhaps I'm better off trying it out myself and seeing how hard it is etc.

Laid hands on two contests on the weekend. I was in front, got a clear set of mits on them, only for the mark to be paid by old mate behind me. Also got badly tripped in the forward (our back) pocket by a stray foot that wasn't called.

I did blow up about a holding the ball call against me which was right, but that was more out of embarrassment than anything.

That's the worse one when you get a hand on it and the forward grabs it and is paid the mark. But the question I have for you why did you not punch?

I agree, I'm sure Doug is a great coach and I understand that the stocks are most probably very low. We had two young blokes Saturday, in fairness to those guys, I just can't understand the logic in that. BJ is probably our best umpire, he should be rostered with a young bloke every week so they can learn from him. Even get Andy Seccafien and Doug himself up in the As to teach these young blokes the ropes, I'm sure they'd develop quicker. Doug and Andy were both there watching and providing plenty of advice at the breaks. When young umpires are overruling each other, it cant be great for their confidence, whereas if an older umpire was to do so, well maybe he'd learn from it a bit more. Who knows!!

I would hate the job, it'd be tough, so I must give them credit for having a crack.
