Honest as the days long.
Had the privilege of watching him every week at North. Deadset superstar.
Very humble re the personal awards that he was shafted of.

Even as a Roos fan you easily forget how good he was, imagine if he played without being in Carey's shadow.

Loved the interview.

I always thought through that period that he would be one of the players I'd tell my kids and hopefully grandkids about, that I was lucky enough to see him play. He got close to that sort of level but I think he left everyone wanting that little bit more from him.

Perhaps as Dutchy notes, might have been a different player without Carey. Might not have either.

Enjoyed the McKernan ep, however I kept getting the feeling he was reluctant to go into specifics about some of the discussions/arguments he had with Pagan. Would've been good to hear.

Not an "Open Mike" but did anyone watch the "Lost Years" about Richmond last night?

I started to, but didn't get to finish. Amazing to think about how self destructive they were.

Am looking forward to tonights episode.

Did anybody catch Sheahan's "Richmond- The lost years" last night?

I thought it was pretty good. I started following footy in the early 90's when richmond were a rabble and was some years later before i understood just how powerful they were through the late 60's, 70's and 1980-82. Could never understand how a side could be rattling the tins 10 years later. Bizzare decision making re. coaches too. in between 1980 and 1997 they had Tony Jewell, Francis Bourke, Mike Patterson, Paul Sproule, Jewell again, Kevin Bartlett, Allan Jeans, John Northey and Robert Walls all rotated through the senior coaching role. Not to mention the decisions made to offload Cloke and Raines in exchange for a few hack pies players. A few decisions like that resulted in the clubs debt sky rocketing and almost forcing the tigers to close the doors. Incredible period in their history and remarkable that they are still one of the best supported clubs in the AFL.

Always surprised me, given their penchant for replacing coaches, why they never went hard (as far as I know) at Neil Balme.

and one of the few decent coaches they had in Northey, they wouldn't extend his contract with a year to go on it. You could call it sulking that he left but think he had some reason to be slighted as he'd done a good job even though there were quite a few Brisbane players that didn't rate him as a coach. Robert Walls was his replacement and he's since admitted that he should never have accepted the job.
Have mentioned before but In Terry Wallace's first year they were flying at 7-2 when Nathan Brown badly broke his leg and he was arguably "the" in form player in the competition in those first 9 rounds. Plus if they hadn't been scared off about the rumours about Franklin and taken him, who knows, things might have worked out slightly different for the recent Tigers.

Enjoyed the episode- doesn't subscribe to conformity and tells it how he sees it- a culture it sounds as though Barassi was the catalyst in installing and it's flowed onto the way mark calls the game.

David King talks his fair share (of sh1t) too.

I guess with McLure, hes not too bad because he only comes in small doses.

I'd certainly rather listen to him than Tony Shaw.
