AFL Reserves Discussion...

Port Adelaide has kept the turnstiles spinning (and the $ANFL coffers full) for 143 years. I'm sure we'll be fine.

When is the next Save Port appeal.

That was yesterday when our far-sighted Board ratified the Reserves model.

Assuming this model is conducted as outlined, I am extremely pleased with the outcome. In fact I'm glad the short sighted $ANFL clubs baulked at our initial model.

Sadly there will be casualties. Unless the PAFC can construct an "alternative" payment scheme, (the CDFC model) players who want to earn big money at the Magpies will probably move on and I thank them for their contribution. Those who want access to the best coaching/training/rehab program in the competition will find it attractive.

That's fine by me as the PAFC needs to be a destination for the best and I imagine success will create its own level.

Hawthorn, but not with the passion I did or still do of the PAFC. But, being a Port Adelaide person I had no hesitation in maintaining my Magpie allegiance and following the PAFC into the AFL.

Is there a rule in place stating how many games an AFL listed players must play in the SANFL during the season to play in finals?

Or if Port and Crows miss AFL finals can they load there teams up with Dangerfield, Boak ect?

Not sure about the Cows but from what I understand of Port's model
- If the Power are stil playing finals then no rules apply and its open slather.
- Once their participation in AFL finals has ended then to qualify they must have either played the majority of the season in the SANFL or 3 of the last 5 in SANFL

Don't believe me... we'll according to the AFL, Essendon has won 16 flags... should be 20... we won four in the VFA before we joined the VFL/AFL.

Yes and Geelongs VFL flag the other year is listed as Geelong Reserves.
Will any flag won by Port in the SANFL now be listed as Port reserves and not be added to their tally?

Have never understood this since the VFL was born from the clubs in the VFA who broke away and founded the VFL of which Essendon was

I wonder if they have taken into account what has happened in the VFL this week.
Taylor Duryea was dropped by the Hawks last week and has played AFL all season. As the AFL Hawks are not playing this weekend he was ineligible to play for the box hill hawks this weekend. Permission has been sought and granted from their opponents this week for Talyor to have an opportunity to earn his spot back, Werribee i think is the the opponent.Taylor also did'nt play last week because the box hill hawks had earnt a week off as well.

i have also accepted it, and will be moving on to other things. what the sanfl directors dont realise, is that once they have lost supporters, and those supporters have found other interests to fill in their time, it will be highly unlikely that they will be back

I'm already an Adelaide United fan. I watch just about every game either live or on Foxtel. I'm looking forward to the upcoming season more than anything else and I expect the SANFL will sadly become a thing of my past.

I've also been looking for an excuse, a reason, to get my sorry arse down to the local football ground to watch the local league and now I have a reason. Watching Payneham Norwood Union last weekend reminded me how much I used to enjoy watching Kilburn when I was a kid, so I can see myself finding a local country team in the Adelaide Plains or Barossa leagues to follow.

I reckon the SANFL will get fair crowds next season, there'll be a novelty factor with the Crows and Power early on, but I think that will wane and eventually people won't be interested in what will now obviously look, feel and quack like a practice competition.

In year 2 or 3, that's when I think we'll see crowds of 1,000 or so to most games.

ill spend my time with my young kids, or watching country footy, or shooting with my guns, hell, with the money ill save by not going to the footy ill probably get my handgun licence. once i fill my weekends with other things i wont have time to go back, and in a couple of years if North are struggling for members, it will be too late.

Tipper... get the handgun license, you'll never look back... I got mine a couple of years back, bought myself a Glock 9mm Gen 4 semi-auto, its a lot of fun and will always be handy in a future zombie apocalypse!

It's a bit easier to accept when it's a club doing it fair and square playing under the same rules as everyone else.
