everyone on here will now he's at AFC  ;)

He is overrated, as many people in the media pump him up (as they do almost all players). I think he is a good player and very capable but definately not superstar.

Agree. I think Yarran, Garlett and Betts were overrated as a trio at Carlton, because they were three outside players you were too similar, whereas Geelong's trio of similar players (Stokes, Christensen and Motlop) are prepared to do hard, in-close work too.

Anyone else think Geelong could get good value by trading Varcoe, given they've got the three above players, who I reckon are all ahead of him?

Yes. But Varcoe would have lost a lot of currency this season. As exciting as Trav can be, he has only ever given us one good season. Injuries cruelled him just as our investment in him was starting to bear friut. There were times this year when it looked like Tambling was running around in Cat colours.

REB

Yeah, has had a bad run. To me he seems to want to do the flashy or low percentage thing too often, rather than the basics, whereas Motlop, Christensen and Stokes have a better feel for the circumstance, and I reckon it's been a bit overlooked because they have been so strong they've been able to cover it. Did do some good stuff in the 2011 GF, though.

Trade Radio reporting Chappy is gone from the cattery
If you can keep your head when all around you have lost theirs, then you probably haven't understood the seriousness of the situation.

 I remember him making a similar comment about Tambling when he was recruited. Rowie wouldn't know sh*t from clay!

They really have no idea do they?

Betts will be good at the Crows. He's been striving for a big bloke to crumb from for years and now he's got one. I think he'll be better for the Crows than he was for Carlton, providing their game plan allows for the crumbers to get at the talls feet. (for some reason, this doesn't seem to be part of our gameplan!)

Best of luck Edwardo! We'll miss you.

They've obviously (and rightly) got high hopes for Menzel. Jury is still out on Jeffrey for mine, he's too inconsistent and one dimensional. I wonder what our forward line will look like next year?

Menzel Henderson Thomas

From what I heard on SEN today, the Cats copped a fair hammering for letting Chapman, JPod (particularly), Hunt etc go .. Yet for the the best part of 7 years we've all lauded Geelongs ability to not bottom out and rely on a hoard of top 10 draft picks. Short memories many people have. They have the runs on the board for all to respect that they know just what they're doing.

We'll definitely make a play for a key position player. Don't know if we'd get the first draft pick. Maybe melb's number 2?? Could we get Boyd with that or trade it up??
Have heard a rumor regarding Patton though

Won't get Boyd with it, but if you got #2 and put a decent player with it GWS might be amenable?

I've heard a Patton whisper also (but lets face it, who really knows this time of year??)

I agree. They should be lauded for what they've been able to do. These decisions must've been really difficult to make but to stay at the top, they have to make them.

What number is James Aish tipped to go? Two years at senior level in SANFL you'd assume he'd be ready to go round 1 next year.

Henderson is your best defender now.

I'm interested in how Carlton would get the #1 draft pick?

Yes in Wells we trust but its hard to say goodbye to one of our favourite sons who could be running around in different colurs next year. The problem with the Cats is that we dont have enough players in the 25-29 year old range. Both the older guys and some of the younger blokes ran out of Legs in the second half of the season.

REB I think it's a rather dramatic clean out by the Cats, I thought at least one of Chapman, JPOD or Hunt would have survived with Corey also retiring.
