Totally agree...

When was the last player / coach at League level?

Bone at North Adelaide or Freddy at the Bay?

I actually don't recall them doing that, but if so, then probably Bone.

I don't think it was a whole season thing, just a couple of games, from memory...

The SANFL will become so irrelevant with the introduction of the B grade teams that playing coaches will be back in vogue

Yeah, you reckon?

I can just picture it now - Rubbers leading the ruck at the Bloods, Roy running off a half back flank for the Dogs and Mick Godden hobbling around one leg in a forward pocket !!!

Bit out of left field but I heard the rumblings last Thursday. At first I thought too early but now I'm 100% full steam ahead behind Dugga. It's a bit weird because I regard him as a mate as well as a Player now Coach of my Club!
Really wanted to be an in-house appointment!

100% correct again Fester. Needed to be in house and this man has 100% respect from the players.
I believe a guy like this will gradually impose his own style over time but will not be radically different immediately like a Shawn Rehn.

Nothing against Shawn btw.

As for Sturt and Glenelg supporters being critical of coaching appointments makes be laugh.
An the idiot who call Ben Warren " up himself " must be from planet Mars !

I can picture it too, the oldest player on the list will be 28 or 29, he will be the coach, the second oldest will be 23/24. there will be no money to go around and u will need to get two for the price of one.
Players will not want to be part of it once their AFL dream is over.

McGuinness for one game in 1998 is the most recent player coach.

McDermott played 10 games as playing coach in 1997 for North.

North won most of the games that McDermott played in.

Ken McGregor missing easy shots on slight angles for North.

As pafc1870 mentioned in the INS and OUTS thread, Michael Wundke has quit South and will be joining former team mate Andrew Ainger at the Eagles !!!

Got to feel sorry for south. Gone from having a three prong attack of wundke ainger and smac. All 3 gone + Rolfey NA with a knee injury. Dog move by wundke? Maybe. Should of stuck it out to help the boys get some success.
The death penalty can never be excused as it allows a state a means by which it can pick and choose who is fit to live and who isnt

Good get for the Eagles, and indeed for any club, although with Ainger, Grocke, Fitzgerald etc., I'm not sure a key forward is exactly what we need...

Can't complain too much, came from North Adelaide originally, just another transient footballer.

What comes around goes around, Wundke's just a football slut, just like Craig parry was.
Its not like North went backwards and South went forwards after he moved.

I would say South pretty much went forward once he moved on the back of a Ken Farmer medal winning haul. And Ronnie Fuller's awesome coaching.
