Footy Mad - you are obviously notorious for stirring, and/or very bored and this can be the only explanation for the crap you are dishing out on these forums. The word "idiot" you used for Mexican would be more appropriate description for youself based on your comments...
"A few of you have your blinkers on big time - the day the best team in the SFL beats or even draws with a full strength div 1 club I will eat my own head!"
The best team in the SFL is Morphett Vale. As Mexican and The Lova told you in plain english, which you failed to understand, is that Morphett Vale would more than hold their own in an A1 competition, with wins expected against the likes of Edwardstown and Adelaide Uni. Let the head eating begin...
And just to make it clear, I dont think anyone in the SFL would claim that the SFL is a better league than SAAFL!
From your comments it sounds like you are knowledgeable about all comps (SFL, KTNFL, GSFL, SAAFL). Tell us where your allegiances lie? I know that i would rather look to the young guns in the SFL than hang my hat on blokes like Mods playing in my comp...

Re: Southern Football League
Having played the majority of my footy in the Amateurs and in the GSFL and involved with my kids in the SFL - the top SFL clubs would all be bloody competitive in Div1. Whether they win or make the finals in a hypothetical is irrelevant. MorphettVale would thrash Uni and Edwardstwon as would most of the Top 4-5 clubs in the SFL at the minute.
It is a silly argument - further the SFL is a different league to the GSFL and Amatuers. The GSFL is a very open brand of running footy. The SFL is in close and very tight and tough. Bigger bodies - far more depth in the Top sides which is why it is always hard to compare leagues. The Amateurs is even tighter - and watching a game last week - a host of talls all with ability to give first time and kick that 5 metres further.
We should be talking which league has the best depth of player - in the SFL - the Top 4-5 sides have a very good squad of 25-26 - in the GSFL - you generally have 12-15 - obviously Langhorne Creek and Willunga have more, but the others might struggle.
In Div 1 - Goodies would have a very good squad of 25+ making them probably the best side out of the SANFL.
Of all the comps I have been involved with - the SFL despite the discrepancies between the top and the rest is still a terrific comp - and as I have stated on a few occasions - great to see real rivalries - something the Amateurs miss out on these days.
And we would all acknowledge that the Div 1 Amateurs is still the very best league outside of the SANFl but don't sell the SFL short you Amateur blokes. Very cheap shots indeed. Why not get your Div 1's to play the SFL next year!!! Now that would be a challenge and you could see just where we are at. Lets bring it on - in 2008 - SFL vs SAAFL Div 1's.

Thanks hills...... I think with the views expressed in the forum, footy mad has surely been put in his place and I dont mean to harp on the issue but another thing Ive thought of and correct me if im wrong...... but the challenge cup played in 2006 2005 2004. of which the SFL won in 2004 and was competitive in 05 and 06. Now although the SAAFL team was an under 23 team and I know that the average age of the SFL team was also 23. My point is that I believe the SAAFL under 23 team was picked from all the divisions. not only div1. Now with that many players to pick from and SFL having 15 teams only surely that says something about the league in itself. and if they only had the div1 teams to pick from that would bring those matches even more in favour of the SFL.
Just a thought......

FootyMad wrote:Sorry boys but I just have to harpe up again - the SFL is not the BEST country league getting around. The SFL is NOT the best league outside of the Ameature League, the SFL is scene as a country league hence tha fact that they have to play country associations in the rep sides.
A few of you have your blinkers on big time - the day the best team in the SFL beats or even draws with a full strength div 1 club I will eat my own head!
The SFL's best 21 (no barriers) would be a formidable outfit however I strongly suggest would be beaten by more than simply the ameature league.
Further more to the kid who posted about the rep side cutting out basically everyone and concentrating on players who are under 25 and have never been with an SANFL club - to you I say wake up mate! The Rep Side is about the best of the best, why reward players (unless you have to) who are actually not the best and never were good enough to even play SANFL under age?
Bottom line - every association struggles with rep sides as the sting has gone out of the game. Once players start recieving incentive to play rep football then we will see the best of the best.
Further more - a KTNFL Rep side full of its best players would smash the SFL best 21! Who in your league would play on Modra and even if you think you have anyone good enough do you have someone else to cover Phil Smith? Your dreaming boys! I hear alot of blokes mention that they were in the south system blah blah blah but when was the last time any team at South were any good? I will go as far as to say the SFL would not beat the BL&G nor the Western Border League!
Wasn't the whole inter-association weekend abandoned because it was just a matter of who the SFL were going to play on the Sunday? I know and have played with and against players that are consistently in their respective teams top 5 in GSFL yet get found wanting when they move to league clubs!
And the fact that you don't think the top sides in the SFL could mix it with A1 is a joke every year the top teams need to play against A1 sides in trials to get any competition and before you jump on your high horse and tell me its only a trial big deal its only a trial for both clubs you can't tell me that a team isn't going to put somewhere near its best 21 on the field if they are available good players need a preseason to! Seems to me your more interested in bringing the SFL down than talking up the Great Shit Football League!

Already mentioned that in the last post on page 126. emus lost by 4-5 goals from memory. Both sides had a few "top tier" players out. but considering goodies are the cream of the SAAFL div 1 crop at the moment surely that shows how competetive the top few SFL sides would be.

Re: Southern Football League
Footy nut i agree I think Coves forward line is going to be far to good for Brightons defence...As for the midfield i'm not so sure Brightons is better Cove have: Gill, Vick, Bevan, M Reavill in there's, however, I would say Brightons will be more disciplined which is what you need to be on that small Cove oval. Gonna be a cracker Cove v Brighton always is....I think Cove by 6-8 goals Ramsey Weidermann & D.Reavill to much height and class forward.

OTB - Don't know exact side mate i.e ins and outs...I just know those 3 talls will be playing...Your right about Coombes though i hope he does play as he adds that real pace (and we are talking real pace) to that tall forward line
