So against South Africa an average of 40 would be a fail?

i have actually advocated him moving down the order because i dont think he is good enough for top 3, but i think he can be destructive at number 6. i am on your side!

Sorry mate.
Whufc and Mal are the delusional ones.
My apologies.

happy for him to go, faulkner has jumped ahead of him, that is the only reason he isnt playing more international cricket right now.
people seem to forget that almost all youngsters are dropped at one point in their career.
hayden
langer
clarke
steve waugh
brett lee
could have easily been warne too
and Ponting.
Also one of my favourites to watch at full flight Damien Martyn

Who else would you take?
Give me a single player that is still playing shield that has a better record than him?

rod_rooster wrote:The thing people need to remember is that each time he has been dropped he goes back and makes a truckload of runs to earn a recall. He earns his spot as opposed to guys like Marsh, Bailey and others who get picked despite their best first class seasons not even being close to other blokes' worst seasons.
By no means am I saying Hughes is a walk up start or that he has made a success of his Test career but at least when he does get picked it's based on merit and not because their Dad once played at a time when we were desperate enough to carry a cricketer that ordinary.

Making a hundred, which a top 6 bat should do, is just taxing no matter where you bat in the top 6. Maybe more so at 6 because you are batting with the tail and score a lot of singles.
So i dont get the argument for him batting at 6 so he can bowl more overs, unless he cracks a hundred of 65 balls. and the rest of the blokes bat for a hundred+ overs.
