Extra camera angles, very good
Graphics and HD presentation, very good
Commentary, very poor, little knowledge, too slow, player guessing, little voice excitement. Neil Cross and Michael Maney are missed.
Audio, very poor, like the ABC there seems to be little attention paid to sound effect mikes and overall audio, 6k people in a suburban ground make lots of noise which didn't come across.
Overall, the presentation was superior to that of the ABC with (hopefully) improvement to be made as the season progresses.

Re: Channel 7 announced by SANFL as preferred telecast partn
thought i would finally venture into this thread to see the opinion on the telecast as i wasnt able to watch it last night. seems like it was largely positive, which is a good sign. who did they have commentating? if they are new to SANFL you can probably forgive them not knowing everyone straight off the bat, i guess that should improve during the season. (edit: soders ginever and john casey should have known the players i would have thought. give them a few rounds and im sure it will be good)
also havent looked at the fixture, but i would hope that a lot of the games would be in a timeslot that there is a Fox only game, so that it doesnt have to go head to head with any afl games.

Mark Sodestrom, John Casey and Tim Giniver.
I thought Solders and Case were excellent.
I hate commentators that arficially raise their voices/excitement for goals, etc too much. IMHO it demeaning and aimed at simple minds.
And if you going to do it, do it right like those South American soccer commentators. GOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLL!!!!

Yep much better to just call it as it is than artificially try and inject excitement (OH BOY WOWEEEE)
If the game is exciting the should be getting into it too though

Probably just as well 'Darley', with what 'Fester' was yelling out all night C7 would have been off-air before the first bounce !

Blimey, those cameras got everywhere last night. No wonder it's costing a $1m. And painful I'd imagine

Re: Channel 7 announced by SANFL as preferred telecast partn
For mine, very little to pick between this and the ABC. Unless you're spending squillions (and they're obviously not), or the commentators are rip-your-ears-out annoying (and they weren't), footy coverage is footy coverage. They did a decent meat-and-potatoes job without anything remarkable. Their centre bounce 'zooming in quite close from a bit of an angle, close to the ground' shot looked strange and a little confusing on the small screen. Might have looked great on a big screen, I don't know. Otherwise camerawork good. Boundary rider okay, although no idea who he is.
Perhaps not surprising that with viewers' expectations these days, the clubs have to provide their piece of flesh, by not only making both coaches available, but also players walking off for half-time having to sign up for an interview about how it's all going! Jace Bode was the chosen victim this time.
A few amusing moments though:
• One of the production crew not realising that she was way too close to the live mics, and her comments like, "we'll go to a commercial after the next goal" were broadcast load & clear
• At least 3 times that the crowd was audibly peeved that the umpires seemed unsure when they were allowed to start the game again after allowing extra time post-goal for a commercial—don't they have the 'flashing light in the grandstand' thing going? And why are the umpires standing at centre bounce facing away from the grandstand if that's where the signal will come from?
• So much Gatorade was poured on the mic attached to the camera catching the team song in the huddle after the game, that it just shorted out, and almost the only audio for the 2nd half of the team song was from a mic that was picking up the recorded version of the team song somewhere (up in the stands, I guess)!

Well a link to the game was on the SANFL site. Full game too, including all the adds. I've taken out a BankSA loan @ 4.99% to pay for a new Stratco Patio Awning
Can't wait for the delivery. It'll keep the rain off at least.
Thought the coverage was pretty good. New the players names which is always a bonus.

Re: Channel 7 announced by SANFL as preferred telecast partn
With channel 7 making games be played at 12 for their broadcast reasons I would interested to hear what kind of money Centrals are likely to lose next week.
You would think pre game bar takings will be down
The restaurant will also take a massive hit especially at lunch time, I would think dinners would also be down with there being a 2-3 hour gap between game finishing and dinner time.
It's a worry that we have to pay for the right of being on commercial tv nevermind because of this the club could lose money on game day and all so we can broadcast to viewers who more than likely wont actually attend SANFL games and have just a passing interest before there artificial farce league starts.
I liked channel 7's production of the game but I'm still not sold this is in the best interest of the 8 proper clubs

Add to that the 30m of fence signage to be shifted to accommodate the telecast sponsors.
