Sounds legit according to Roy Ward on Twitter, he's a Melbourne basketball journo.
Supposedly the team will have a new name & colours!

Melbourne United it is!
http://www.smh.com.au/sport/basketball/ ... 38jxh.html
Obviously want to disassociate from the Tigers name and get some more young people on board before the second team in Melbourne comes in.
Confirmation in the article too that Chris Goulding won't be back either NBA or Europe next season.

Re: 2013/14 NBL Season + Off-season news/Boomers
Even after reading the reasons for the change, it seems like a bizarre decision, likely to alienate more people than it will attract. Massive risk. I would imagine for long time TIgers supporters finding the passion to support "united" next season wont be easy, and good luck getting an old giants/magic/titans/spectres etc fan on board.
It's the shame the sport in the city has never rediscovered the heady days when the Giants, Tigers and Magic were winnings championships and crowds were very solid, providing an alternative to the AFL during winter. D-Mac, Gaze and Goorjian. Good times.

I agree it's pretty ordinary there is a lot of tradition and history with the Melbourne Tigers name. I understand wanting to get in before the 2nd team comes in but still.

Re: 2013/14 NBL Season + Off-season news/Boomers
Big story in NZ with Breakers player Reuben Te Rangi in hot water and two other NZNBL players arrested for the bashing of two bouncers at a nightclub after a game.

They do seem to have behavioural issues at the Breakers with Corey Webster & BJ Anthony in the past and now Te Rangi.

A very heated game with a chinese player trying to trip up Rhys Martin and then China's coach was seemingly ejected but refused to leave.

Some very one sided refereeing in this one, the 1st Qtr was a joke.
