Very good list but I think you'll find that some of these like Waters, Cassisi, Waterhouse, Van Berlo,Toia, Stenglein, Schofield, Surjan and others have only played in two of the leagues.

I agree. In fact I think it's a poor list. The essence is that a player has played at the highest level (or at least current day VFL) in three states. Comparing Nathan Van Berlo or Dominic Cassisi to Geoff Blethyn or Bob Beecroft in this regard is "apples and oranges".

Especially in the way the modern era classes the SANFL and the WAFL.

Maybe the list could be divided and reflect the status of the three leagues, that is the WAFL pre-1987 and the SANFL pre-1991.

The main reason is that journeymen are now able to play in all three leagues by the time they are 23 (primarily due to being drafted by non-Victorian clubs and treated as a "Reserves" player by that club).

They are not truly worthy of comparison to some of the greats on the list.

The list isn't really comparing greats, just a reply from the question. I do believe it should be amended to post and pre 1991 though.

However, a player like Toia was recruited here; came from WA and essentially played in three leagues without it being classed as being treated like a Reserves player,

The VFL/AFL listing only includes VFL seniors from 1897 to 1989 and the AFL seniors since 1990. It has been sourced from the AFL Encyclopedia of League Footballers.

There is no way that this list could or should be tainted with references to matches played in the second-tier VFA (until 1995) or VFL (1996-).

VFL / VSFL (1897-2007) This is NOT the AFL Stats from the encyclopedia - It is the old VFA/VSFL/ now VFL league but is the descriptor for this comp which is a different descriptor to AFL/VFL ebven though the VFL name is shared in two places!

Whatever way you look at it, the SANFL then VFL, then WAFL in that order are second tier competitions to the VFL/AFL stats. If you ask about 3 leagues, Then the VFL is a competition which is almost as strong as the SANFL. I HAVE NOT tainted the VFA/VFL stats with the AFL/VFL stats - Its just the Comp name which mght seem confusing in the lists above.

I think a suggestion from a pot above about specifying a period for players in 3 comps is a fair idea. BUT IN THE PRESENT, we have four main comps with AFL/VFL, VSFL/VFL, SANFL and WAFL. Maybe this clears it up or you in terms of the organisation of players and their competition listings above

I dont think he ever played for North, admittedly he did appear on the ground but if he played or not is very debatable.
Mind you he did play one decent game at Norwood Oval when we won so I take it back.
