Goodbye SAFM

Postby Footy Chick » Mon Oct 13, 2014 11:57 am

Just announced that they'll go off the air today.

Although I don't listen to them anymore and haven't for years, it's still sad to see our first FM station fall by the wayside.

Thanks for the memories (and for Skyshow :D )

They are still on air, they'll just be called something else from October 20. At a guess I would say they are looking at nationally branding the network. SAFM is the equivalent of FOX FM in Melbourne and 2DAY in Sydney. Not sure if they're music position will change too. Currently they position themselves for the under 40's market with NOVA and NOVA is winning that battle easily.

Anyway, it will be very interesting to see what they do for those of us in the radio business!!

Why, is ABC FM going too?

IIRC, 5-SSA was the fourth FM station in Adelaide. Called itself "double SA FM". Ditched the "double" when callsign standards were relaxed.

My bedside alarm, clock radio, is on ABC 891, and my default FM station is ABC FM.
However, I do sometimes listen to the football on other stations when in my car - about the only time the car radio is used..
I'm not sure whether I ever tuned in to SAFM...
