Ian wrote:I agree, glass does look great but like I said, we are trying to retain some of the original 1920's bungalow character, 200 x 100 gloss white tiles laid in a subway pattern, black grout to tie in with the black benchtop and kick panels...

On the other had tiles are much cheaper and I've done small areas of tiling myself as the labour is always the major part.
I hired a tiler for my kitchen a few years ago because there were some tricky reflex corners and he did a good job - his having a diamond saw helped.
I'll post his name if I can find it.

The new kitchen has:
White walls
Gloss white cupboards with white (glass front) built in oven and all appliances except cooktop are white and the dishwasher is fully integrated
Black marble pattern bench tops with black (glass hob) cooktop
Black kickers
Polished Baltic floors
All of the architraves have been stripped back to the natural timber (Red Pine)
The splash back is going to be White 200 x 100 tiles laid in the subway pattern (looks like a brick wall) with Black grout

kickinit wrote: Yeh going to a acrylic splash back would look stupid and out of place. The black grout would be a big winner. The one I hate about tiles is how the grout always looks dirty after a while and it's a pain in the butt to clean it so it looks new again.

Kitchen tiles are going to have to wait, the Wife's (family) car has just shit it's trans, rough 1st estimate $3500 give or take $500

Floor out, walls out, ceiling out, pipe work out, electrical out.
New underfloor plumbing to the new plumbing outside, new slab, walls, etc etc.
Shower screen went in yesterday so I haven't had a chance to take the full finished shots. Will post a couple tomorrow.
As for the grout, grout seal, tins of it at most tile/bathroom places. I plonked about 3 cans of the stuff into the floor and shower area, it seals the grout from stain/mould etc.
