How much are you betting on who takes 4th spot mate? 8)

Ha! No outlay on this one mate, just genuinely interested. I've had your mob pencilled in for it most of the season and still wouldn't rule them out completely, but if they havent turned it around by now it's a big enough ask just to make the 8, let alone the 4.

Leaning toward West Coast .. Don't think Collingwood are "there" against the better teams yet, and the Tiges will have peaked too early (maybe).

Just a genuine question because there doesn't appear to be a glaring standout.

I too would say West Coast. Gut feel tells me they are more set for a prolonged winning sequence than Collingwood or Richmond.

I think it's West Coast, Collingwood and Richmond from Geelong, North and GWS.

I think the Eagles will drop off slightly in the back half, KPP depth will be an issue against sides like Sydney, Hawthorn, etc.

Should make the finals, probably around the 6th mark IMO

As you can see though I havent got freo dropping a game for the rest of the season, which is obviously wrong, but I think they will go in as favourites against most of them. If i thought it was a 50/50 game i mostly went with the home team. Probably was a little optimistic with the crows games too.

My reading of it seems to be that Geelong and Port Adelaide will be the ones that shape the finals. Nobody really knows where they are at - are they contenders, are they even finalists? Geelong have been playing well lately but the jury is probably still out. It is further out with Port. They need to have big wins against teams like Collingwood in order to make it.

To me it looks like a massive logjam, with teams 4-12 probably all carrying hopes of finals this year. One of the most even seasons in years imo

Do you think it's out of the realms of possibility we win all of the games I mentioned? We would start favourite in basically all of them at home. Of course that is the best case scenario but it's not like I'm expecting us to beat hawthorn.

Reckon their kids are a year older and better than last year.

Geelong's kids are a bit like collingwood's last year imo. Reckon Gregson, Lang et al, even Caddy, arent quite ready for consistent footy week in week out and I think they will fall off the pace quicker than the pies.

It might rest on the shoulders of Cloke and Hawkins. If either stays in form for the rest of the season their teams will surely make finals and push for top 4

Hawkins would have to get in form before he could stay in form he's been horrible nearly all year. I think the Cats will just miss and that's fair enough as we have proven to be well short of the best teams all season but perhaps Richmond and Collingwood are better than given credit for, especially at the time we beat them.

If Geelong can win at the Oval then we can make finals I reckon. We need to win a couple interstate to make up for the losses at Cat Park earlier in the season. Another key match for us is the game against GWS, we've never lost to them but we've never really played that well against them either. Missing out could prove to be a bonus for us I think. A slightly better draft pick and hopefully an easier draw than we got this year.

Top four has to be West Coast I reckon. They look to have finally caught up to Simmo's game plan and they are gelling at the right time with a few blokes finally playing to potential in Masten, Shuey and Yeo. If Nic Nat continues his form of the last few weeks, and even holds a grab or two the Eags could be a real handful.

Tall defenders. Who has them and who do they need them against?

yeah definitely agree with that. Thrown in Richmond, West Coast, and GWS and you have the teams that can possibly make the top 4 if everything goes well, or miss the finals entirely if they have a bad run of form.

Port is a very interesting one. Everyone expects them to start turning it around but so far they havent managed to do so for more than maybe a quarter at a time.

Time is running out for them I would think

It sure is, maybe they're shelving a game plan.

I reckon Collingwood, Geelong and Adelaide will all end up on 13 wins, I think the Port vs Collingwood clash in round 15 at Adelaide Oval will be the Pie's game of reckoning, if they can take the points there they are a genuine top 4 contender.

I just re-did mine with the following result.
Sydney
Fremantle
Hawthorn
West Coast
Richmond
Geelong
Port
Collingwood.

A lot can happen in a day. The GWS vs North clash is huge this week, a win will see the Giants finish 6th by my calculations, a loss will see them finish 10th.

GWS' job of making the finals, let alone the top four, has just been made a little bit harder, given the announcement that Mumford's out for the rest of the season.

Yeah that's going to change things massively. Reckon he leaves a bigger hole than Ablett did at Gold Coast last year, and we saw what happened to them.

Having said that they probably have a few more decent leaders than Gold Coast did so maybe they can keep it together
