Post by another grub »

Who is your tip for the magarey medal and who do you think will poll most votes from your club?

I wonder if scott could put up some leading players stats, say min 12 games.

Panos from Norwood a chance?

Who would be getting all eagles votes?

If expect Cross to win it.

Kirkwood would be up there Id guess.

Panos and Allan to steal a few votes off one another.

Memory might be off here, but I thought Schmidt had polled less than most of us expected in recent times.

Your correct JK, was meant to go close last year and barely polled a vote but getting over 30 touches in a lot of games he should poll well. Playing in a winning team helps too whereas last year he played in a losing team

Cross will be South's best candidate and by a fair margin, certainly could win it depending on how the next month goes. Proven vote getter and is a midfielder who kicks goals, which is a handy trait.

Bradles from the Bays will poll well. Very consistent year and not a ton of people to steal votes.

Schmidt, Stevens from west
Cross - South
Lyons - Crows
The real smokey IMO is Snook from Us

Is a proven vote getter from the umpires in Reserves (2nd in 2013 (might have been 2012) when he played half a season of 2s IIRC) and League medals (got 7 votes last year from 10 games)

Is curently 2nd in disposals, and 2nd in clearances and tackles up to Rd 14. To Rd 14 he is 4th in free kicks for ;) . He is right under the umpires' noses.

He has probably got at least six votes already BOGs in the games against Norwood and Sturt.

How he goes depends on how many 1s and 2s votes he gets in our losses when he has been a standout for us.

Very few from the Bays apart from maybe Bradley will take votes of him.

Is defiantely worth an each way bet

Having said that Loccy McGregor from the eagles is not without a silly chance too :D

IS anyone taking bets on the magarey this year I've looked on a few sites and can't see any markets for it
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

5 North players will fill the top 5 with the plethora of votes coming our way.

If I were Joel Cross Id be working on my acceptance speech now.
IMO has had his best year at South..bearing in mind he's won it before and figured high in the voting every year.

I predict North Adelaide to come 6th, ie five individuals will get more than the whole club. I could be optimistic here though.

I think Cross will be very difficult to beat, won’t have anyone stealing too many votes off him, previous winner and polls well as established last year when he wasn’t considered one of the top 3 or so contenders but still attracted votes.

Panos is probably the best chance outside of Cross I would say, but Jimmy Allan could obviously take a few away, especially early on.

As for the other teams:

Adelaide – Lyons will poll well in the games he’s played but no real threat from the Ravens
Central – Trav Schiller should do well, but not enough to really threaten I don’t think. Will also be interested to see how many Chris Jansen gets
Eagles – Expect them to steal votes off each other but wouldn’t be surprised if Petrenko polls well, Rowntree might also get a few
Glenelg – Snook is definitely the biggest chance, been in great form and catches the umpires eye
North – Motlop the only one likely to poll more than 3 votes I would say
Sturt – Kirkwood will poll very well early, how well he polls after that during Sturt’s bad patch in the middle of the season will determine if he is a serious threat
Port – No serious threat here, Summerton should do okay
West – Schmidt has been fantastic but as said, hasn’t polled really well in the past. Wouldn’t be surprised if Porplyzia also polls well, but the Bloods in general might steal too many off each other

Can Ravens players win it?

Are you inferring they can't win it (won't attract enough votes)? Or that there is a rule that says AFL listed players can't.

If its the latter, I beg to differ...
