St B vs Port D: Taints 1-5
"The D" where the only team to beat us last year, smashing us early on in the season. Port have started brightly and have had a heap of numbers out all year, and look to be a team on the up. The Taints have had a premiership hangover, coupled with real actual hangovers and have started up and down, with a decent win over the giant killing Irish Aussies, but last week allowing some kid who is probably in year 11 at Westminster to kick 4 goals against in an ugly loss to Western Ireland. 6 of our players are also battling severe sunburn from having to do match officials all day last Sunday. Having 14 players both games hasnt helped us, however at this stage we should actually have enough players and even a bench tonight! Tho as we all know a lot can happen between now and 8:15pm...
Purple Haze vs Flinders: Haze by 6-10
With a team consisting of 18 gun minors and the 3 x Floreanis (who combine to push up the average age of the team to 30
) the Goats will probably be too good for Flinders who are still searching for their first W. I havent seen Flinders play this year, but hopefully they take a leaf out of their womens teams book, and start playing some decent football whilst also being rather pleasing on the eye!
Onkas vs Na Fianna: Na Fianna 1-6
Not sure what is going on at Onkas, they struggled for numbers last week, but their lineup still featured a plethora of State guns such as Wadeo, the Conlons, Cratey, Butter Bing, and Rusty etc. However Irish were able to repel their early charge, and really fix them up in the end, if not for Irish's poor point kicking they could have won by 10+. I was impressed with what i saw from Na Fianna, who were very unlucky not to beat Western Ireland. As is often the case with gaelic, in some real key moments late on the ball fell to some of Na F's poorer/newer players, resulting in missed opportunties and the game getting way from them. Also cant not mention dour backman Dan Bryant inexplicabley finding himself bearing down at the WI keeper late on and seeing THE SACK, and his usually reliable solo letting him down and ballooning metres in front of him!
Special mention to the Irish Aussies, who have the bye and i believe have sent a team to Tasmania to play in some Gaelic7s comp? Decent effort!
