Clearly wasn't cheating when he's better at putting without it.

Whatever does it for you jakovasaurus.... At an amateur level, we should be able to use whatever we like, pretty much. If anyone reckons they go better with a broomstick, that's fine by me. My putting is awful.... it really, honestly is.... But I have resisted the broomstick. No plans to change that any time soon.

My putter and putting sucked. Was too short and I was too shit. Was looking to upgrade, thought a broomstick would be fun to try at least.

Then one day a mate rings me from Drummond and says they have one second hand but in perfect condition.

I said if it's around $100 I'll come have a look.

Was $100 on the dot. Said **** it. Just buy it for me and I'll pay you back.

And I've been happy with my broomstick ever since :)

Me, I'm still using my Peter Senior Pro Simmons from the late 90's.

Having said that, I rarely get more than 6 rounds a year in and always said I'll upgrade when I'm playing once a month. Couldn't justify the expense of a new set if I'm only rolling out a handful of times a year.

Having said that, they still serve me well and an upgraded driver helps with the longer part of the game.

Having said all that, tomorrow is my 5th round for the year, that's once a month for this year and I'm getting closer to selecting a course to join as a member. So I might just be in the market soon.

Now back to topic at hand....

Upgraded my irons about 6-7 months ago to Wilson staff D200s - 3 hybrid, 4-s. A drastic improvement on the old Top Flight players i had.

Back when i used to play poker i splashed out on clubs that i really didnt need, but wanted, and they have served me well

I have the Callaway Razr X Black Driver, 3W and 3h, 4-SW, then i also bought the AW, and a Callaway Jaws 60 degree, and a standardy Odyssey blade style putter.

Love the black finish of them, they will serve me well for a long time yet

Just dont get caught out by the lofts!

I'm still struggling with my distances since upgrading to G30. Anyone got any tips for figuring out exactly how far each club carries?

Go to the range and hit balls. Fine tune by trial and error during rounds.

I've always thought -
9 iron 90-110m
8 iron 110-120
7 iron 120-130
6 iron 130-140
5 iron 140-150
4 iron 150-160

Google also suggest these are about right.

Certainty depends on the individual player but the above ranges are almost spot on for me Boon.

Although at the 145-150 range I'd rather hit an easy 4 as opposed to a heavy 5, But with this being said it depends on so many things IE; Wind speeds, Elevated green, Wet green, the Lie, Hard green etc etc

I have a mate who hits a 7 iron effortlessly 160-170 and yes it pisses me right off! lol

Agree many influencing factors. Play with a bloke who hits his 5 iron - 190 metres. Just stupid long. Still he is off 3 handicap, so he should.
