That's an interesting one - probably been given his best run at it this season, and has had his best season off the back of it

Surprising if true, especially the timing.

He turned down offers to stay at the end of last year didn't he?

Thought they guys he's now keeping out of the side every week; CEY, Knight, Grigg etc would be the ones wanting opportunities elsewhere.

Reckon Grigg will go looking for more opportunities.

Knight was only recently drafted so he wont go yet but CEY is the big one.

Good luck to Lyons if he wants to go. At least he put up career best numbers this year so we can get a decent trade for him.

Not sure about that one to be honest. Thought he played a few games this season. Is he from Victoria?

What are you not sure about? He definitely put up career best numbers. I think he's a Vic

About him leaving or looking for a trade. Thought he was probably looking settled in the side.

Wondering if its more about a go home thing because he seems to have his spot settled well sort of.

Yep, seems like a tight cap squeeze at West Lakes.
He was offered a "paltry" deal according to the article

We'll give you Toumpas and pay his wage in a direct swap for Lyons. Deal?

Righto that would make more sense then.

If thats the case then he'll be part of a cap squeeze that teams find themselves in from time to time. I guess a Victorian club would be a likely destination. Maybe worth a 2nd rounder?

If Adelaide are already squeezed in the cap then the likes of CEY ( didn't they make jumpers/tshirts about him last year then he's played 2 games this year? ) Grigg and perhaps even Kelly might be on the look out for better deals elsewhere.

CEY and Kelly especially looking for more opportunity. CEY probably gets more with Thompson set (?) to go but Kelly is behind a Talia, Lever, Hartigan, Cheney and even Henderson at the moment.

I would say thats a fair point Mr. Boon. CEY will get more game time but contract wise maybe an issue. Kelly, Grigg and Lyons might be on the move.

I think Grigg is as good as gone. Sounds like Lyons is looking at it and I forgot about Kelly.

No doubt we are looking to bolster our midfield stocks in the off season and since we have so many inside mid types like Lyons/CEY/Grigg/Gore I think the club can afford to offer a lower deal and possibly lose him.

The club also will look to pay more to Milera and Knight who are better players and will most likely take his spot next season.

Only way we have a cap squeeze is if we land a big name in the off season.

Henderson will go as a free agent and Thompson will either go to Melbourne or retire so there’s 1 mill freed up! Expecting CEY and Grigg to leave also.

Fair turnover of players there mate might hurt your depth a bit.
Thompson
CEY
Lyons
Grigg
Henderson

That would leave a bit of cap space no doubt.

Throw in Otten, VB and Shaw.
Will be interesting to see what happens over the trade period.
Still think we will look to trade in 1-3 players rather than going to the draft.
Depth wise i think we will be ok - Players like Menzel, Hampton, Milera, Knight, Deer, Gore, O'Brien, Wigg ready to step up next year if required + any players we bring in from other clubs.

Menzel and Hampton are interesting pick ups.

Menzel behind Betts, Cameron, McGovern and probably Milera in the forward mix so would need at least 3 injuries to small / mid forwards to get a game.

Hampton behind Smith, Laird, Brown, Lever and Henderson in the back half and would, like Manzel, need 3 or 4 injuries to running defenders to get a game.

Wonder if both are questioning their move to Adelaide seeing they were both out for more opportunities?

Injuries or lack of form.
Cameron, McGovern, Milera, Brown and Henderson are not automatically picked if they are not performing. The others might have a bit more grace.

Brown? He's a mainstay ( missed 1 or 2 games in about 4 years IIRC ) and well ahead of all the others named here and I think McGovern is also well ahead of the others.
