Re: Great Southern Football League
Grand Final Tips
A Grade - Compass to finally break their 36 year drought. Been the best team all year, should be fresh and ready to go. Bays have the home ground advantage and are battle hardened having played 3 finals compared to the Bulldogs 1. There are always arguments as to what is the ideal preparation but i'd go with the fresh and rested everyday of the week.
Compass by 17 points
B Grade - Willunga finished top for a reason. Taken the direct route to the GF by comfortably beating McLaren in the 2nd semi and theres no reason to see why that wont occur again.
Willunga by 35 points
Senior Colts - Willunga v Victor. Finished 2nd and 4th respectively on the table only separated by 1 point. Both beat minor Premier E. Bay by a similar margin to make the GF. Toss of the coin here.
Maybe Willunga by a goal after having a week off to prepare although thats probably not as big as advantage as it is at Senior level.
Junior Colts - L Creek (1st) v Victor Harbor (2nd) Rematch of the 2nd semi final where Victor held on to defeat the fast finishing Creeks by 4 points.
Creeks overcame a slow start Saturday to over run Willunga in the prelim and book a spot in the Grand Final for the 1st time in the 39 years since Langhorne Creek joined the GSFL in 1978. Toss of the coin job but if the Creeks are within touch at 3/4 time, they may just get over the line.
L Creek by heaps hopefully but realistically its unlikely to be more than a goal or 2 either way.

Re: Great Southern Football League
Very disappointing coverage for GF in the Times today.. Where is the four page spread with teams and match ups etc.. Wonder if it may have been better if Stath were playing.....

Have to agree the Times have totally ignored the GSFL in the build up to the GF. I actually now grab the Argus , it gives me coverage of the Hills, SFL and GSFL.
I doubt it would have changed even if Strath were playing , I think that is the standard they have set now.
Good luck to all the teams playing on Saturday.

Re: Great Southern Football League
Former Langhorne Creek Footballer Michael Roeger will be competing in the final of the mens 1500m run in the Paralympics tomorrow morning. The race is scheduled for 6:50am Adelaide time. Roegs is a strong medal chance having recently broken the world record. Hopefully he can win gold and inspire our junior colts as they prepare for their grand final!

Re: Great Southern Football League
Forecast is for rain and a bit of a cold snap. Who will this disadvantage more? Compass forwards? Big oval, plenty of space. I think Compass will get up by 14 points in a low scoring game.

And it was, Quite easily. Willunga by about 8 goals over McLaren i believe.
Willunga by 9 points over Victor in the senior Colts
Junior Colts saw Langhorne Creek win their 1st ever flag in this grade since 1975 in the Hills league in surprisingly emphatic style 11 - 7 to 0 - 1
A Grade was an extremely low scoring affair to 3/4 time where E Bay led Compass 4 - 4 to 2 - 2 but in the last quarter Compass have got their act together to slam on 6 goals to lead 8 - 4 to 4 - 5 near full time.

I certainly do not know the full facts, however it appears a young umpire was extremely hard done by today.
Selected to umpire the A Grade GF on Wednesday and then given the Reserves GF much later instead

The league (GSFL) said she wasn't good enough from the previous week and demanded that she didn't do the A grade.

So who normally appoints umpires?
Is there an issue with the umpiring selectors and the GSFL

Re: Great Southern Football League
Listened to the 2nd half of the GF on radio and boy oh boy did the umpires cop a bagging ! They made it sound like Compass were getting a free ride. They were being quite sarcastic every time Compass got a free.
Ive got no idea whether it was warranted or not as i wasnt there.

Umpires are selected by the umpires panel. Not aware of any issues though.
