Mate, she probably just needs a good banging and trying to scare you.

I'd give that bit near the roller door a bit of a squirt but wouldn't bother going overboard with the rest of her crap, it just needs to look and smell clean, any tiny marks on a white walls can easily be masked by doing a gentle rub over them with a cake of white soap, use newspaper on shower screens to remove streaks, they just want the place as presentable as possible for the next person, they aren't going to get contractors in for the pissy little things that she's pointed out.

Good luck.

From what I can tell from searching, there doesnt really seem to be a market for old newspapers in the same way as coins or stamps.

Selling on-line, or perhaps to an antique store could be an option, but maybe could write to the "Whats Your Problem"? column of The Advertiser to see if they have any suggestions/advice.

It's not the newspaper itself, it's the content - if this is the first Blinky Bill cartoon in colour, then it will have some significance.

I'm probably a bit impatient, however other friends of mine who bought a 100 year old house in Murtoa, Vic about 20 years ago, pulled up the carpet to find a heap of old newspapers from the 30's all in mint condition (it's obviously what they lined carpet with back in the day) Anyhoo, in one of the papers was a full page colour cartoon of what appeared to be Ginger Meggs. They took it to Melbourne somewhere (they're overseas at the moment and so can't ask them for details till they get back) - anyway, it was Ginger Meggs but BEFORE it was called Ginger Meggs and it ended up being valued at about 20K! They only payed $9000 for the house

The fact that it was a colour cartoon produced during the depression almost certainly gives it rarity.

Yep that's what I was thinking. When on Unley Road he had old newspapers in there

A friend of mine has discovered, amongst some of her deceased mothers belongings - the front page of a newspaper called the Sunday Sun and Guardian dated 12th of March, 1933 in perfect condition.

On this front page, is a full colour cartoon of Blinky Bill. Colour in newspapers was unheard of back then. Upon further investigation, we've found out that Blinky Bill was first published in 1933 and we believe this may have some significance or value

Problem is, is that we don't know where to go or who to contact to find out. I figured the National Sound and Film archive wouldn't be able to help and this newspaper no longer exists to contact any historian there.

Any suggestions would be great.

Maybe look for a company that values antique books or even a comic book store/collector

Try MGS, Mason Gray Strange, they value odd collectables. I know someone who had a couple of old car rego papers and log books valued there.

@Footy Chick

Agree with MGS, I have a contact there FC who would be happy to take a call, let me know if you want his details FC

Anyone know when the 2G mobile phone network will be deactivated?

My mum has a basic Nokia phone, with Vodafone, phone is about 8 or 10 years old. Im not sure if it is 2G, but given the age and functioning of it, it could be.

Ive read conflicting reports on when 2G will be wound up.

2G will be wound up on December 1 from what I remember reading. Better to get her to upgrade sooner rather than later

I do, but they shit me for different reasons.

Notwithstanding the crass commercialisation of Christmas and Easter, both of which be celebrated in your own private Idaho, Halloween seems to require children openly begging the neighbourhood for confectionery. I'm not sure of the cultural reasons behind celebrating it here in the last 20(?) years, I dare say it's an opportunity exploited by commercial interests. I do recall it's something to do with being the day before all saint's day - which unlike Christmas and Easter, I'd say most who take part probably aren't aware of.

That said, I don't begrudge people celebrating whatever they want in their own time and place, although if you pop past mine at 8pm tonight wanting a handful of Allen's party mix or a 'trick' you can save yourself the effort.

Fortunately my 50 metre long steep driveway keeps door-knockers away.

Christmas and Easter don't bother me much as the commercial hype is easily ignored and the religious aspect doesn't impinge on me. I do object to the hype promoting a purely commercial and Disneyfied US version of Halloween because it is more or less totally disconnected from its traditional roots as a religious festival preceding All Saints Day, and is clearly driven only by those commercial cynics whose only interest is wanting to get into the wallets of the gullible...

All holidays are like that these days if you choose to make it like that.

I love christmas and easter. Even if its just for the fact that its one of the few times that all of the family is together.

Halloween im a bit on the fence about. Yes its commercialised rubbish and the only reason it is becoming bigger is the shops push it as it fills a gap in the shopping calendar.

But then again how can you be mad about kids dressing up and having fun. As long as there is no expectations on people to be involved when they dont want to be i dont see a problem with it

Easter I'm a bit indifferent about, mainly because I'm not particularly religious and I don't eat chocolate.

Christmas is a whole other ballgame though...I LUUUUUURVE Christmas, mainly because I have good reason to rip out every single penguin I own and put it on display.

Wait for this years lighting extravaganza ;) extra purchases made after being robbed of everything in the front yard last year - all of which will be conveniently placed in windows. You can see my house from the main road too so it'll get plenty of exposure :D

In anticipation of an influx of trick or treaters the missus bought a plethora of treats. We had one group of 6 and that was it.

I am sorted for smarties, caramello koalas, kit kats, snickers, milky ways, freddos, and maltesers for a good couple of weeks now.
