How the f**k does Jhye Richardson manage to get an inclusion to the squad?
Also no specialist back up keeper.
Also no specialist back up keeper.

Re: Australian Tour of South Africa
The CA obsession with guys who can bowl 150 clicks or hit big bombs is becoming a joke.
Richardson might be good in a few years, but how about making him earn a test squad inclusions first? Half a dozen first class games, no first class 5w haul and an economy over 3rpo.. i'm just shaking my head in disbelief.

Don’t need a specialist keeper back up as Handscomb is there

Don't normally just blindly stick up for the SA boys but ffs Sayers is extremely stiff not to be in that squad.
Surely the SAF pitches would be to his absolute liking!!
Bancroft, Holland and Richardson very lucky

Shield :
Bird 25 @ 16 @ 2.69RPO
Sayers 17 @ 24 @ 2.82RPO
Numbers support Bird's inclusion, however, the selectors have spoken about variety in the attack regularly. Now, Bird is no Hazlewood or Cummins, but he's more "like" them than isn't where Sayers is one out of the box who an hoop them around.
Agree with Dutchy, Bird was bog ordinary in Melbourne. Looked like a bowling machine straight up and down, no coincidence it's the only time the Poms took to our attack.
In two matches Holland has taken 11 @ 18.6 @ 1.72 RPO.
If you want to go quickly, go alone.
If you want to go far, go together.

Re: Australian Tour of South Africa
I blame Langer, the selectors just do whatever he suggests. He's obviously told them this kid will be good & they put him front of line.
I think there only taking Richardson as experience, id hope if there was an injury to the big 3 Sayers would be on the plane & in front of the kid to play just behind Bird.
That's the only way it can be logical IMO

If you can keep your head when all around you have lost theirs, then you probably haven't understood the seriousness of the situation.

Bancroft, Holland and Richardson very lucky
The way Philander has been moving the ball in the first two Tests against India would indicate Sayers would have loved conditions over there.

Re: Australian Tour of South Africa
Does anyone else recall the days when selection in a touring test squad for Australia was based around solid Sheffield Shield form?
1961, 1971, 1976, 1978, 1983, 1986, 1988, 1989, 1991, 2008, 2013, 2014, 2015.... And don't you forget it!

It was less than 3 weeks ago Agar was preferred for Sydney over Holland, not red ball cricket since and now Holland is preferred?

This decision makes sense, if Agar was to play it would have been with Lyon at the expense of M Marsh most likely or maybe Cummins. As Agar can bat a this favoured him.
No way they will ever need to play 2 Spinners in SA & Hollond is better than Agar I think we could all agree on. Hollond will only play if Lyon's injured.

Re: Australian Tour of South Africa
Chadd will never play for Australia unfortunately. The selectors have this infatuation with guys who can bowl 140-150 clicks.
I’ve heard Merv Hughes say in the past that he thinks test batters would handle Sayers with ease and considers him not quick enough to play tests.

....which was exactly the same argument that kept Sayers out of the Redbacks team for many years.......not quick enough and too short. He has proved them wrong and deserves a chance. I'm not suggesting he plays in front of Starc, Hazlewood or Cummins, but he could play a role similar to what Philander does for South Africa. Philander bowls at high 120's and if the conditions suit, he is a very good bowler. Interestingly Chad at 180cm is 5cm taller than Philander at 175cm and bowls at about the same pace. If one of our 3 quicks breaks down I think it would be a big mistake to play Richardson.
