There's not a lot of apples all up, any news on how Austin Waugh's progress is, I heard he's a freak in the field.

Just turned 18 in November, would expect him to be considered for a NSW rookie spot next season. Bats middle order, bowls medium pace and definitely handy in the field.

Watched him at last years 19s carnival held in Adelaide. Steve was there but kept well away from the team just sat with the supporters like any other parent.

this is a good point actually. Probably because Cricket is way more hierarchical than footy, so accusations of nepotism are easier to make

Agree but strangely cricket performance tends to be more black and white than aussie rules where 1%'s are considered more valuable etc etc than in cricket. Runs= good performance, Wickets= good performance.

Do you listen to the grade cricketer podcast or follow their twitter?

They hit the nail on the head - It should be all about making runs and taking wickets but its as much about optics too - a good looking 65 is better than a bad century. The public and media still deride Steve Smith's terrible technique even though he is the best thing since bradman

Yep kinda true Benny. Even as a player I'd rather make "good runs" than hack for a higher score. Which is a bit weird I know. Last week I batted poorly and I know it would have looked terrible from the side lines. But I did my job for the team in as far as I didn't throw the innings away either. But my first 15 or so runs were horrid, terrible, hacks. I even apologised to the bowlers... rather make a pretty 30 than that crap!
