Booney wrote:WEST Coast star Nic Naitanui is set to miss Saturday's clash against Greater Western Sydney after being offered a one-match suspension for a dangerous tackle on Port Adelaide's Karl Amon.
Naitanui tackled Amon from behind midway through the final quarter of the Eagles' 42-point victory at Optus Stadium on Saturday and, as the Power player fell to the ground, landed directly on top of him.
Match review officer Michael Christian assessed Naitanui's tackle as careless, medium impact and high contact.
Naitanui has also been hit with a $1000 fine for attempting to trip Jasper Pittard in the third quarter of Saturday's game, while Power defender Dougal Howard has been fined $2000 for rough conduct against Josh Kennedy after a careless spoiling attempt when he collected the Eagles spearhead with a knee to the glute.
There were eight other fines arising from round eight games on Saturday and Sunday:
- Swans defender Jarrad McVeigh and North Melbourne's Shaun Higgins ($1500 each) for jumper punching each other in the third quarter of Saturday night's game at the SCG.
- Carlton's Dale Thomas ($2000) for rough conduct after bumping Adelaide's Jordan Gallucci.
- Richmond's Nick Vlastuin ($1500) for misconduct against Docker Ed Langdon.
- Saint David Armitage ($1000) for careless umpire contact.
- Melbourne co-captain Nathan Jones ($2500) for misconduct against Saint Jack Newnes.
- St Kilda's Jack Steele ($2000) for striking Demon Max Gawn.
- Brisbane Lion Alex Witherden ($2000) for striking Magpie Ben Crocker.
Meanwhile, Melbourne's Jesse Hogan has been cleared of staging after he won a free kick against Jake Carlisle during Sunday's clash at Etihad Stadium.
Based on behind-goal vision, Carlisle turns toward Hogan and makes contact with an open hand to the throat area.

Didn't see the game but this one seems strange.
If it was a swinging arm that clipped him behind the ear I could understand the fine, however a knee in a spoiling attempt seems strange.
Either Dougal lined him up and kneed him in the back, in which case he should get a month, or, he jumped to spoil and made contact with the player while doing so, play on.
Agree Nic Nat's was always going to draw attention. Drove a player into the ground, always at risk of games.

This sort of thing has been in the game forever and getting a fingernail to it didn't impact the balls destination.
Im all for fixing the "howlers" but just let the game continue for such insignificant cases.
Whats next, reviews in pack marks where the defender might have touched the ball first...

Agree.
If it’s obvious then over rule it otherwise just bloody get on with the game.

That was obvious though.
Personally it should just be for goal line decisions. It’s clearly not set up to adjudicate those touched ball scenarios

I reckon there was at least 6-8 occasions where you could see a bloke was going to be run down and in each case the tackler clearly got into the back much like Natanui but you can just tell the umpire is gooing to pay holding the ball before he is even tackled. His mind is made up becaues you can see what is going to happen. You still need to be tackled correctly.
The 2nd was players getting pinged for holding the ball when the tackle barely retarded them at all. Very quick on the whistle

MRP said Nic Nat had both his arms pinned before driving him into the ground.
1) Never drove him, just momentum of 110kg guy going forward.
2) 1 of Amon arms are free.
3) Deemed as High Contact,it's not.
