I'd say they'd be in constant contact with the list management / recruiting team as to what the coaches wants and needs are throughout the year but ultimately come draft day the people who have put in all the work identifying that talent will decide who the "next best" in the draft is.
Ie - You may need a ruck man for the future but if you've got pick 8 and Dangerfield is available you take him as he's the "next best" and that might not be the coaches wish, it would be the recruiters wish.
I'm sure the coaches have some input, but from November to September ( or thereabouts ) they're focused on the very big job at hand.
I'd be of the assumption that they'd have a huge input into it. They are the ones that are on the chopping block if they don't deliver the goods.
Apparently this is the problem at the Bulldogs, Beveridge thinks he runs the whole show, a control freak if you like. Id say he'll be lucky to see out this season. He may go the way of Choco and not get another gig

I think the coach needs to be a 'control freak' to a certain extent.
There might be a lot more 'outsourcing' of responsibilities these days but it's still the coach who gets sent packing if the team doesn't register enough W's in the WLD column, not the list managers, talent scouts, sports scientists, high performance managers etc.
The Beveridge scenario is an interesting one. Something's happened at the dogs for them to turn over so many players in 2 years. I think journos know something but can't put it to print.

Thats unlike them if thats the case. Normally they dont give a **** and have zero accountability. So if they knew something it would be printed by now.

Sounds like fun. 3 blokes, sitting around at a pub, whinging about everyone and everything.

Can you tell me the last time one of them had an apparent “whinge” and what it was about? There seems to be a perception that because they’re more animated in the coaches box or because they answer questions in a presser honestly & with some emotion, that they’re whinging. Strange.

I will if you can name the last coach to get fined $30,000 for complaining about umpires.

This week Brad Scott was complaining on radio that Ben Brown gets treated unfairly by defenders and should get more free kicks. I do actually agree with him on that though
