That's just silly on both accounts.

Gawn 27 at the end of the year, Goldstein 31 mid-next year.

Why would he leave North? I mean, they're the destination club not the departure club.

I think teams that need a Ruckman and will install him as their number 1 will be more attractive to him.

Geelong, Giants, Freo maybe?

If he goes does that make them the Airport Club?

Interesting article by Terry Wallace about the Blues gaining McGovern via drafting Shane McAdam from Sturt then on trading him to the Crows and a second round pick to the Crows. The Crows are after a small forward to replace Betts and see McAdam as a suitable replacement.

Worth merit but again I'd rather have dibs on a midfielder.

Thought you could only trade draft picks and no players could move?

Reckon there's a lot of wishful thinking in Victoria about this. McGovern is a better player than they realise and Adelaide in a stronger position than most times a player asks for a trade. I doubt they would have to pay as much, but if it came down to the #1 pick or McGovern, I'd think about it if I was Carlton. Not because he's a superstar or anything but he just fits their needs so well in terms of age profile, versatility and skill set. Has the tools to be a really good #1 forward as you see whenever Walker is missing. Also Carlton just don't need another 18 year old prodigy. You just get the wrong mix IMHO. Better off trading down and getting some value for that drop and then getting your hands on a 200 game role player.

No idea what the clubs' views are but McGovern and pick #7 from Adelaide for pick #1 would be a solid win for both IMHO. Might want a set of steak knives one way or another, or perhaps some meaningless shuffling of other picks to keep someones ego from getting too bruised.

#1 draft pick can often mean sweet FA, I think your proposal is quite apt for both clubs, McGovern is a jet and will only get better with maturity.

The state league player drafting has merit for the clubs needing help but early reports were they wouldn't be able to trade those players around.

At least he can continue to work on his 118 games without a Brownlow vote.

But even Duryea is a stretch for Sydney. I mean not all players can be turned around. For example look at Vickery, not even Clarkson could turn him into a useful player.

Not sold on whether I like this or not. Suppose it all depends who we expect to take with Freo's pick compared to who is still there come ours
