But he doesn't want to go to Freo.

Not sure how keen he is to get home as it makes him and his manager look silly now.

I mean I don't blame him not wanting to go to Freo.

That's a fair side, be interesting to see other teams best 22 of 'lost players' over the journey... I would expect none would get close to this and maybe GC due to their draft concessions etc but still an interesting discussion piece...

I'm not sure a lot of those players would be in their best 22 given their picks - and lets face it, they've done VERY well in compared to Gold Coast.

The way I see it, their seconds could beat most teams in the VFL or equivalent. Great recruiting but the salary cap has bit them on the proverbial.

Posted along these lines a few weeks ago.

Sounds like Wingard was given a talking too in the exit interview and got an idea that if 2019 mirrored 2018 then the contract wouldn't be what he may have thought it was.

So, his manager takes him to the market with $5m over 5 years the asking price. No takers. Straight away Port know his market value. Potentially someone may have offered $750-800k, but that's to get him to move. Port are in the box seat, $650-700k and that's it.

So earning potential limited at Port ( because of his managers actions ) and he's potentially unhappy with the coach.

Good work, manager and Chad.

The AFL sign off on all the trades as being fair and equitable.

Scully, former #1 pick, 26 years old, 152 games, he can't be traded for pick 53 to Hawthorn, surely?

How can the AFL sign that off as legit?

Ankle possibly stuffed, could miss a fair chunk of next year.
Salary dump also helps.
It’s really no ones business what the Giants want to trade him for. He has helped them with his last contract so they might want to facilitate the move for personal reasons

Do the Hawks have to give his old man a job too?

Tin foil hat time but wouldn’t be surprised if a heap of deals are already done in principle but the AFL has requested them to be saved for Wednesday nights prime time coverage. Gil loves theatrics so imagine if all deals were done by Wednesday arvo and they had nothing to show Wednesday night

An SA side thinking they'd be a chance of getting an SA boy back.

Slow news day.

How?

It's hardly revolutionary thinking to suggest an SA side would be confident of being able to lure SA talent home.

By expressing confidence in getting them back. You might think that but certainly wouldn't put it in the media as you would probably have to pay overs to get them!

Big difference between chatting to a player and outright telling clubs not to recruit SA players if the allegations are true

And Cripps didn't say not to draft them, he merely said he'd be confident ( as Adelaide would ) of getting them to return home.

Did anyone read the article?

That's akin to draft tampering?
