Re: Southern Football League
UMPIRING !
It is about time we discuss the standard of umpiring this season , early in the season I discussed the lack of ability to throw a ball to the ruck contest from an A grade boundary umpire but of more concern is the lack of consistency from central umpires week in week out . The more I discuss with other clubs they agree the standard has declined to be at best poor ! (while we pay more every year ) when every week both sides look at each other to see who has the free kick let alone the spectators who have no idea .
On the wend we had 3 umpires and again the frustration was again on show , of the three the little red headed bloke has to understand that the game is NOT ABOUT HIM and he alone payed 5 x 50 meters for what appeared frustration from players unsure of decisions payed .
I have said it before if the umpires let the players play and only pay the obvious all will be happy .
I must note on the wend we had an umpire who recalled a 50 due to poor decision and won respect from all for putting his hand up and over ruling the decision all knew was incorrect .

Would love to comment on some of them individually SB but have to agree the standard is lacking compared to previous years, some have an interpretation of the rules that is totally misaligned with local footy. I was chatting to an A grade umpire on Saturday last week, he said "that was his first game umpiring in the SFL this year".... Its Round 10?? I thought we shared umpires with GSFL ? Possibly , and it's only a theory, GSFL are getting shall we say " pick of the litter" when it comes to umpire allocation? Would love to know how they are allocated.

I would say theres a fair argument that half the players dont actually know the local rules and have their minds stuck on the Friday night footy they've watched the night before. Theres going to be frustration and confusion when you dont know the AFL have completely different interpretations to your own league. I still see players appealing to the umpire for deliberate out of bounds each week...
Every player should watch the video put out by the umpires panel and i think there would be a much greater understanding...

Re: Southern Football League
Disagree with your comments , by the way you didn't umpire at Noarlunga on the wend against Reynella and have red hair !
At the season start all coaches where instructed regarding the rules adopted by the SFL and GSFL with all playing groups understanding the min changes to rules we play under.
Confusion starts when umpires are inconsistent with decisions !
Just call the obvious and let the game go and all will be happy .

Re: Southern Football League
He'd find his breath for the Noarlunga frees though.
The problem as I see it is that umpires feel they need to be like Razor and Margetts etc that now have a ******* profile that no one wanted them to have.
The best umpires have always watched and paid the obvious frees and, if they had to think about if it was a free or not, they erred on not. Now it seems to be looking for any little thing that they could pay not what they should pay.

Re: Southern Football League
Great day at Flaggies on Saturday in very trying conditions .
I must comment on how good Flaggies scoreboard is , If I could make one suggestion is that when a goal is scored for Flaggies the graphics are great with "GOALLLL" and the umpire with the two hands but the opposition get zip ! now come on our kids want to see the graphics

I too was at the game Shoe Boy...
The shoes were too tough and hungry on Saturday in very tough conditions. For all bar 10 mins at the start of the third qtr, it was a very one-sided affair...
Will certainly be incredibly tough to beat regardless of the conditions come finals...

Re: Southern Football League
On what evidence do you base this comment on???
2017, 2019 & 2020 PREMIERS
RICHMOND, RICHMOND, RICHMOND.
Let that be a lesson to you, Port Adelaide Sturt. & Norwood You don't beat Glenelg in Grand Finals and get away with it.

That Hove must be an up and comer, an A-Grade win and yet to recruit a player!
