Same here mate. When the pool went in we divided the yard into 3 sections ( Council - pool fence - little wanker he was ), under cover / paved area, into the pool area and through another gate onto small grassed area. I made it clear there would be no dog again as it would either be shitting on pavers or penned up on a small section of lawn. 
So, while I was in Sydney last year Archie the cat arrived into our home.
I still get sent pictures of dogs to adopt. 
They wonder why I drink.
If you want to go quickly, go alone.
