Went along to this gig which was moved the Adelaide Uni lawns, great spot for a gig plus cheap beers and only $55 for the ticket. Started the day with lunch/beers/bets at the Wellington then got the the gig at 3pm in time for Horror my Friend who I was keen to see again after getting a glimpse of them at Dear Seattle in December. Fresh of their song of the year win (turned loose) at the SA Music Awards they are a great 3 piece which challenge the norm with some unusual sounds/beats but are very enjoyable.
Was going to go to the Uni bar for a quiet beer while Hayley Mary played, but was blown away with her voice, so bloody powerful and a great rock sound. Since found out she is the lead singer of the Jezabel's, but with her solo stuff she is heading more down the rock path, very good and will be listening to more of her stuff.
Was looking forward to West Thebarton, had heard some great things around the traps and didnt get to listen to any of their stuff as I hoped before the gig, so went in blind. They rocked up with 7 band members including 5 guitarists! I then noticed 2 of them were from Horror My Friend, just presumed they were joining in for the day but have since found out those 2 members are in both bands. Far to say they make big sounding raw rock songs and a front man they does not hold back, really engaging and I can't remember enjoying a band Ive never seen/heard before like I did with them. Fav part was when the lead walked out into the crowd, got everyone down on their knees and then jumped up for the mosh -
https://www.facebook.com/westthebartonb ... 034076234/Tim Rogers came on for an acoustic set, which was a hard gig but entertained the crowd and very engaging as always.
Then The Mark of Cain, never seen them before and a huge reason I went along, as I suspect they will disappear again for years, if not for ever. Wowee they were as good as I expected, good hard clean sharp rock, played flat out for their 40 mins, hardly spoke to the crowd, just did what they do best, outstanding.
Didn't know a lot about Children Collide, but again enjoyed them and their energy, looking up more of their music is on my to do list.
Bad Dreems came on and again its the 1st time Ive seen them live, just good plain rock from the heart and finished off our night brilliantly when Tim Rogers came out for the cover of Rain (Dragon), crowd went nuts.
Didn't hang around for Pond, as I didn't know them, was buggered and had a free ride home from the family that were at the cricket, still no idea who they are and what they were like!
Fantastic day with bands there for the right reasons and donating their time, so pleasing to see new and old South Aussie bands. WT & MOC the highlights for me.
Fitzy hosted it well, esp considering his co-host looked like he was on another planet
