Fresh lush grass, which usually isnt the case this time of year, plus heavy dew, didn't help the spectacle

72 points, 2 best teams in the comp.
I plead with the AFL to make drastic changes, its horrible to watch.
This is as good a year as any to experiment

BS. The reason the game is the way it is is because they make to many changes. Good pressure footy, with a shortened game. Leave the game alone

BS we all know you leave a little mess in your pants whenever Sydney kick 5 goals and dont lose.
This defence first mentality has to be run out of the game for good.

What a joke starting positions are when you have 10 goals kicked for the game, they dont go far enough. Lets have one on one duels coming out of the goal square all game. Bring back the 100 goal FF.

Or even better, switch the rules back to what they were like in the 80s and 90s.

Buckley just said they played exactly how they wanted to play in all facets of the game and they are in good shape.
That is whats wrong with the game right there

Agreed Daisy. Can see why audiences have been down last few years. I tuned of at half time and this is meant to be 2 of the best teams. Games just a rolling maul and is so over coached.

You know what the clubs will say - we can rectify it if we get the assistant coaches back! They are mostly to blame. Keep the laptops and the analysis out of the coaches boxes and the game might stand a chance.

Doubt it. That game goes any longer, or extra time, and Richmond win easy. Collingwood happy to get the two points.

What about something radical like one coach on game day, no analysis or stats. Probably wont work as the game plan will be ultra defensive from the start.
Unfortunately the only thing that will work will be zones or reduction in amount of players on the field. The players are too fit now and the oval is too small

The only good thing about watching a Collingwood vs Richmond game, is one of them has to loose #rippedoff
1961, 1971, 1976, 1978, 1983, 1986, 1988, 1989, 1991, 2008, 2013, 2014, 2015.... And don't you forget it!

A draws usually exciting but this one was an awful spectacle.
10 goals for the game & it’s the exact reason why their should NOT be a night GF.
Too wet slippery & dewy making for not a good game to watch.

If you want to make drastic changes to the game based on one game back from the biggest impact we've ever seen to a season, pull your head in.
Conditions were shit, players rusty, no atmosphere.
See what happens later in the year.

Shorter quarters, less time to get gassed, pressure will be maintained for longer periods, rubbish spectacle.

The AFL brought in the interchange cap to open the game up as players become fatigued late in quarters, shortening the quarters has the exact opposite effect. If they want 16 minute quarters limit interchanges accordingly or reduce the bench to 3.

How often do sides kick 2 or 3 goals in "junk time" to break a game open? They're screwed now though, they can't change back to 20+ time on in the middle of the year.
If you want to go quickly, go alone.

If you want to go far, go together.

Agree with this. I don't have the stats to back it up but I wouldn't be surprised if upwards of 40% of goals are kicked after the 20 min mark in recent times.

Unfortunately the rules from back then could be so easily manipulated by the coaches of today that I reckon we'd have nil all draws.

It's not a one off thing, scoring in 2019 was the lowest it had been in 52 years. I get defence wins games but alot of the beauty and excitement has been taken out off the game due to it.
