Re: Southern Football League
SFL powerhouse Noarlunga and perennial battler Aldinga pull out of 2020 season
The Southern Football League will be reduced to a seven-team competition this year after two clubs’ decision to pull out of the 2020 season.
Powerhouse Noarlunga and perennial battler Aldinga on Friday announced they would not take part in the shortened season this year, citing ongoing concerns about the health of volunteers, an inability to cope with strict COVID-19 restrictions and a lack of senior players.
Noarlunga, a reigning grand finalist after losing to Flagstaff Hill in the 2019 flag decider, believed it would not have the numbers to field two senior sides as many players had already committed to work once the pandemic hit.
Shoes president Mark Anderson said it was a tough decision but best for the interests of the club.
“We have always been concerned about the safety of our volunteers, right from the start of this — many who are older,’’ Anderson said.”
“And safety of our players, too, is very important.
“We weren’t sure how things would play out but we feel this was the right way to go.
“It is hard but we think the right way to go.
And it was hard for players to commit to play.’’
A lack of depth in its senior ranks forced Aldinga to pull out of the A grade but the Sharks will field a B-grade team and a full book of minis and junior sides.
Its women’s team also is set to play.
SFL president Craig Warman said the program would be slightly revised and available by mid next week.
“We’re right to go and hopefully Noarlunga and Aldinga will be back stronger next year,’’ Warman said.
The A-grade competition will now feature Flagstaff Hill, Christies Beach, Port Noarlunga, Reynella, Morphett Vale, Happy Valley and Cove.

Re: Southern Football League
Why wouldn't Aldinga just play in the A grade comp and lose its B grade? Hackham could have even filled that void and still left a full day of footy.

IMO that’s a farce. If they can’t field an A grade side, they should be playing Sunday as per Hackham.

Re: Southern Football League
5 clubs plus Hackham named for a C grade comp, shows the commitment of the clubs left, I honestly though C grade was doomed this year, well done.

Re: Southern Football League
Don’t the $hoes generally get granted additional player points by the SFL when they claim to be struggling with senior player numbers?

Re: Southern Football League
I find it interesting that the CFL has decreed players cannot be paid, but it appears umpires will be/ If this is correct makes a bit of a joke of all in this together..

Re: Southern Football League
Still trying to get my head around noarlunga pulling out!
Yet still have a junior program?
Apparently its not because of player payments?
Anyone in the know (shoeboy) want to enlighten us.

Re: Southern Football League
On Noarlunga FB page
To all of our members, sponsors, volunteers and players we would like to advise you that we are now prepared as a committee to involve our 2 senior sides with our junior sides in the 2020 season in the sfl competition. It was decided with the many restrictions that have been lifted since our first decision and now being advised of more restrictions being lifted in the near future, we believe some of our major concerns for the safe health for our club and wider community has changed dramatically. With consultation with the playing group it was also decided to continue our strong position in supporting the sfl by playing our 2 senior sides. We must still be vigilant in our safe health processes and stick by all current restrictions. But now we have a clearer view of not only the playing processes but also the running of the bar, canteen, bbq and game attendances. These significant changes have made it more workable for our amazing volunteers and our club .
more information about the club to follow in upcoming posts.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR UNDERSTANDING
