Stadium rock - Is it dead?

Post by Booney »

Chatting with friends recently about how much we miss concerts, particularly big open air shows, the question arose, is stadium rock dead?

Given travel restrictions there's likely to be some years before we. or acts, can travel freely from one country to the next.

COVID crowds ( I note the people who have attended the "pens" at Summer Sounds (?) have enjoyed the set up ) will see restrictions for some time and economy of scale suggests a world act playing in front of 25,000 at Adelaide Oval may not be financially viable.

Beyond that, who are the stadium rockers of the future? The likes of AC/DC and Black Sabbath etc are done, Guns n Roses are having a go, Foo Fighters, U2, Metallica, Pearl Jam etc may come back around given the right travel and quarantine conditions.

So, is it dead and if it isn't who joins the big name stadium rockers of the last 30 years?
If you want to go quickly, go alone.

If you want to go far, go together.
