Superb write up! Takes me back...
Playing at the ground on the yatala fence line, me and my mate running late and we're the opening pair. Our skip wins the toss and bats. We are racing to pad up in time, walk out to the first ball my mate clips off his pads to square leg and calls me through, not seeing the fielder on the umps shoulder who went on to run me out half way down the pitch for a diamond.

Did you drive? I'd make him walk home after that!

Nope he drove...so I was stuck watching all day!

It's good to read/hear of others tough days on the field as well I must admit.. makes me feel better inside.

We were 8/37 Saturday, all out for 52.. in reply we rolled them for 136, then had to bat another 9 overs before stumps - 1/42.

I hate cricket.

To cap off my wonderful day, i shouldered arms and had my off stump cartwheeled.. then sat back and watched the bloke run through our lineup.

Nah didn't have any issues with his pace - he wasn't slow but, certainly not sharp.. bowled a swag of outties to me then got one to cut back.. the rest of the guys he just consistently yorked them, and hit it more often than not.

Early in your innings a well placed yorker isn't the easiest to play. 4/5 wickets were yorkers hitting the base of the stumps. Angled in, try and swing to straighten and slide under the bat.

We just have a great habit of making players look far better than they are.

Absolute facts! Does my head in.. every week i watch a spinner toss em up and help themselves to a handful of poles whilst our idiots try to mow them over the cow boundary.. then listen to guys sit back and comment "how shit" the spinner is.

Yes, it's a minor inconvenience but the long term positives severely outweigh the selfish, lazy habits that we have developed.
