South very solid all day and too good for what must be one of the poorest quality Dogs side in its history. In contrast to the home side, the Panthers were consistently able to hit up targets on short leads and when kicking long to the the tall forwards deliver to their advantage. Felt like they ran harder for longer and fully deserved to win comprehensively. For Centrals, the positives were hard to find. Judging by Thommos frustration on the sidelines, it seems the players aren’t able to position themselves structurally (both defensively and offensively) anywhere near as much as he would like. Very much work in progress and with seemingly very few natural leaders on the field that remains very much a work in progress. As for individuals… there are some out there getting regular games that at this stage don’t appear up to the grade. Harsh decisions may need to be made at seasons end re some of these - and no, I’m not naming anyone as that would be disrespectful to them - anyone who puts the hours in at SANFL level nowadays for the pittance they receive at least deserve that respect from an old armchair expert like me…

Good to get the win and not be caught in a tight struggle all game, it’s been a long time since South had a game wrapped up a quarter early. Surprising to see Ben Haren and Sam Skinner do the old switcheroo and both played well with Haren kicking 3 goals and Skinner solid in defence, although he needs to remember to punch the ball sometimes. Most Panthers played well with Gibbs, Horne and Sampson standing out from my view on the north east flank. Enjoyed my first time at Elizabeth. Good hotdogs and it was made even better by a solid win. Go Panthers!

Unfortunately we have gone backwards as the season has progressed .To many players not of league standard and as has been the problem for a few seasons ordinary skills with an inability to hit targets by hand or foot .I wonder if we actually have a skills coach and if the players actually care .We are playing like a side who cant wait for the season to end .Fear a massacre next week against Glenelg.

South utilised the wide expanses effectively and it never felt they were under any great degree of pressure when they had the footy. Hit the lead up targets and kept an attacking mindset throughout the afternoon. Just 74 tackles laid, so it was an free flowing contest.

J. Horne, M. Broadbent, S. Skinner, J. Haines, B. Griffiths, N. Schwarz named best by the club.

The switch of Skinner to the half back line worked well. Took a dozen grabs and read the play well. Has been a tease up forward, nice pair of hands but very unreliable kick for goal. Young Griffiths had the better of the ruck dual. Horne plays with the maturity of somebody with 10 years of senior experience.

The Dogs were ordinary after quarter time, not for the first time against South in recent years.

Totally concur

For me the question is are they learning anything from Thommo no improvement at all from what i have seen this year.

On what weve seen no they havent learnt anything Which suggests either his message isnt getting through or the players are incapable of following instructions or they dont care enough.I guess thats part of the problem when we lack talent .

It's very simple, we don't have enough quality players.
Time to get out the brown paper bags methinks.

Some Central's supporters wouldn't wear a mask yesterday why would they wear a brown paper bag?

After a good first quarter it was a pretty soulless 3 quarters after that from cdfc.

Our big blokes had no impact whilst Souths dominated.

A big offseason with recruiting is required.

Very nervous times around the club in the next couple of years.

I'm glad the club will keep the faith in Thommo being a first year coach. No improvement this year can somewhat be forgiven on the basis his starting to implement his standards, style and philosophy. There is no doubt since mid way through the season Thommo has clearly been experimenting with which players he plans keeping around next year.

Could you imagine if we get a new CEO and the club is in the same onfield position this time next year. Would hate to be that person having to scrutinise a club legends performance in your first year in the role. Will test their character that's for sure.

Agree partly with this however unless Thommo gets help with some decent recruiting then we will continue to struggle. He simply hasnt had the talent at his disposal this year and players that actually could use the ball effectively with hand and foot would help as well.

Yeah I think we can all agree recruiting is a major issue.

Would be interesting to know if the club have looked at it in a review type format. I know we get a lot of ex players who are now coaching providing with names of players they believe would be good, I wonder if their just missing the mark a bit. Essentially is our scouting network ordinary, especially compared to other clubs.

Is it not so much the scouting or our ability to seal the deal, who are the people that talk, entertain a new recruit when they come over, are they not as skilled as people from other clubs or do they not have the resources.

Is it purely $$$$$ or simply the distance issue which for one reason or enough hasn't affected South Adelaide.

We wouldn’t have to recruit if we were better at Player retention. I’ve never seen a club give away Such quality players whilst complaining about not attracting new players.

Colquhoun Hannath Boyd Butcher Menzels Etc.........

All didn’t want to leave but the club knew better. Total mismanagement imho and it’s been happening for years.

This recruiting/retention issue has been around for years and what have we done to address it ?? Have we looked at hiring a list manager/recruiting consultant in a Part time capacity. Someone who can source recruits and employment for such recruits.

Grant Coffee would be someone worth approaching.

Or just sit back and do nothing but make excuses. We have been an excuse club for to long imho.
