The AFL will reportedly have a contingency plan to allow for “top-up” players from state leagues in order to offset the risks Covid-19 cases continue to pose to the competition.

In preparation for the upcoming AFL season, The Age reports the league is urging clubs to canvass top-up options from various second-tier leagues in order to curb a potential Covid-19 outbreak that would otherwise see a side unable to field a full 22.

The report says the league is expecting to have a top-up plan in place before the season commences on March 16 and, as a result, clubs should begin reviewing potential train-on players.
