jackpot jim wrote:Can someone explain to me how Tabs display their pool totals for individual races?
For instance why are pool totals for WIN pools displayed with odd amounts of cents when as far as i know all win bets have to be in multiples of 50 cents or $1 etc.

SA Tab paid a Win Div for Rockaball of $540.90. The Win pool was showing $1,081.80. So if $1.50 was invested on it for the win then that accounts for $811.35 or exactly 75% of the displayed Win pool.

The old days before flexi betting the pools and dividends (especially large multiple payouts like F4s and Quaddies etc) were easy to work out how many winning units were on them .

I'm sure someone has a simple explanation to this?

Ok, just realised that maybe they're displaying the pools with their commission already deducted from them ? That way punters cant work out the exact commission they're taking from each pool as the rate of commission may vary? Would that be right?
Like the old days commission was like 13.5% for win bets
16% quinellas
20% for Trifectas, Quaddies etc.

It was very transparent unlike these days it's all secretive it seems
I think small bets with corporates like bet365 might be layed into the local totes (so they can payout on mid div). Otherwise i can’t explain it

You know that probably means two blokes had $50 for the win with the way Globe Derby is going

I saw the odds last night and the fluctuations were something like $101 into $34 into $12 into $9 into $4.60 which is what it opened at today and then eventually shortened into $2.90

I assume it wasn't a mistake, i'm guessing sometimes the bookies or whoever sets the prices just believed it was a 100/1 chance
After all, the odds set are just someones opinion and they sometimes are proven to be correct and other times not.

I noticed Uncle Leo opened at $51 and was backed into $6 and ran unplaced so the Bookie was right on this occasion and the punters who plunged it were wrong. Works both ways.

All good, I just didn't see those additional flucs.
Looking at its form and beaten margins it's easy to see why it went up 100s without further investigation of the form

There was a 4 dog race a few months back where a dog was put up at 70-1 and was backed into the red and won.
Happens sometimes, lucky for the punters who get on.

Track design to be based on the Melton track

With tracks like Victor Harbor and Gawler already being under utilised from race meetings at least , it's hard to see the benefit of yet another track being built when harness racing seemingly is at it's lowest ebb ever in the state ;)

100% looking at a new track
Maybe part of a Sports Precinct on the outskirts of town that could include sports fields on the inside of the track as well as shared licensed facilities and clubrooms etc
Could be a couple of years away but with basically not getting any meetings as it is, whats the rush ?

Can SA trots go any lower?
Cant even run their main Saturday meeting which they've been doing for ever because Sky wont give them Sky 1 coverage and it's uneconomic to be shown on Sky 2 due to the reduced betting turnover.

Meanwhile at Gloucester Park the FARCE thats been going on there forever continued tonight with ALL 9 leaders ALL WINNING !!!!!
Surely it's time they blew the track up and built a modern one to give more than just the leaders a chance? Even Strath that doesn't even get meetings are being proactive !
