R2 South v Eagles Friday 2.10

Post by DOC »

The only match this week between 2 winners from Round 1.

South won this encounter last year but no side has better record at Noarlunga than the Eagles who have won 20 of 28 games there including the previous 5 in a row (2017-2021).

Kobe Mutch is ruled out due to concussion and the Eagles could regain the likes of Lehmann, Knight and D Menzel.

South by a point.

Should be a cracker of a game with the winner off to a very handy start. Hopefully a bumper Good Friday crowd...

looking like it could be a bit wintry.... a bit like last years fixture at Woodville....?
probably not that bad as the players will be able to run on top of the surface at Noarlunga, rather than ploughing through it. and showers will also be hot - so there will be no need to drive home in your mud soaked jumper and shorts.......

I've been to Noarlunga heaps of times but never parked around the oval. Dad is getting a bit older and bringing the youngest two, so thinking it would be handy to be able to take the car in to the ground. Is that still happening and what is the deal? How long before the game would you want to get there to be able to get a spot where you could stay near your car and still have a decent view of the footy? Do they ever (or always) put up the car park full sign and if so, how long before the game is best to get there just to get a spot?

Should be a good game. Perhaps Dan Menzel and Knight back in? Eagles 1-10.

there was a time when I used to park around the oval - but don't these days. The earlier you arrive the better- then you'll have a choice where to park-ie not behind the goals!!!!
if you arrive 10 mins before the bounce you'll have no choice or it will be full- they only allow so many in.
When you arrive at the ground , drive in the main gate, advise the chap there you wish to park around the ground, he'll relieve you of your cash- i think..? its $10...? and direct you to the left behind the change rooms, there you will be greeted by the sanfl gate staff who will again relieve you of cash or passes to enter the ground/ may even check youre back seat for grog as well, and away you go... My advice , get there early!

If I was Coach Sheedy I wouldn't play D. Menzel and Knight. By not playing them it gives them an extra fortnight to get over their injuries.
Would like to see the winning combination front up again.

South Adelaide vice captain Matthew Broadbent has all but declared 2023 will be his final Hostplus SANFL League campaign as he embraces life after football.

Set to play his 100th League game for the Panthers against his original club Woodville-West Torrens on Good Friday at Flinders University Stadium, the 32-year-old indicated he is set to hang up the boots at season’s end.

Speaking on SANFL Radio, Broadbent said he was determined to assist in breaking the Panthers’ 59-year premiership drought after developing a love for his second club since arriving in 2020.

Currently relishing a full-time off-field mentoring role with the Sammy D Foundation, Broadbent noted how much his life has changed since arriving at Noarlunga.

Broadbent is set to celebrate his milestone match with partner Julia and seven-month-old twins Hugo and Tommy, who may even make an appearance as he runs out to face the Eagles.

Making his SANFL League debut with the Eagles as a 17-year-old in 2008, Broadbent said he will be forever indebted to his first SANFL club for providing him with the opportunity to shine.

This resulted Henley FC junior being drafted by the club he barracked for throughout his childhood – Port Adelaide – before going on to play 171 AFL games with the Power.

Upon finishing up at Alberton at the end of 2019, Broadbent tossed and turned at night as he agonised over the decision to return to Oval Avenue or head down the Southern Expressway at the request of former Eagle and current Panthers mentor Jarrad Wright.

Now the 2021 Fos Williams Medallist can write his own fairytale script should he be a part of bringing the Thomas Seymour Cup to Noarlunga for the first time since 1964.

Umps very much in the Eagles' pockets in that first term. Several times missed a free (and once a mark) to South, only to pay one for the Eagles in the following moment.
