I know you all hate Collingwood with a passion and that's fine.
But some of your comments....like tried to kill him are ******* ridiculous.
I've acknowledged what he did by today's standards is wrong.
However, the player must expect contact in that situation and to avoid getting killed, protect himself.
Now, it wouldn't matter if a port bloke lined up a Collingwood bloke in the exact same situation, id still say the same thing.
Protect yourself at all times. He saw him coming, turn your body while giving the handball.
I've no idea how players survived in the 70's and 80's.
Oh wait yeah I do, they were taught to protect themselves in a 50/50 contest.
You jump to victim status pretty quick then. Pile on? Hardly. Most people calling you out for your black and white glasses.

Plenty of guys knocked out in thr 70/80s. They just had to deal with it and get up and play the next week.

Obviously we know so much more about head injuries now and rhe effect on thr 70/80/90s are coming through.

All I'm saying is this wouldn't be an issue if the bloke protected himself.
Seems to be a lost skill.

No, it wouldn't be an issue if the bloke hadn't gone in hard, late and high. Stop putting this on the victim. "But your honour, she was showing cleavage and leg"

A few of Abletts biggest hits was when we he would pick the ball up, dispose of it with a handball and then immediately raise his elbow. The amount of would be tacklers/bumpers who were an elbow to the face was surprisingly high.

Ablett for all his talent was a bit of a thug for sure and high elbow merchant.

Ablett, Lockett, Dermie, Matthew’s were all thugs but it was excepted/tolerated back then.

Wow, that is a huge call. Not a good one but a huge call nonetheless.

I reckon Peter Caven and Neville Bruns might agree with me.

Terrible news. Great player and from what I have observed a fantastic bloke.

The sort of bloke you would love to have a cup of mint tea with.

That's like a husband telling his mates he's decided not to have sex with his wife for 3 months and it was his decision.

Nobody is buying that.

The difference was that Ablett, Locket and Dermie would belt a bloke who was looking at him. Not so Matthews.

The AFL in partnership with the SA Government is pleased to announce ‘Gather Round…. A Festival of Footy’ will be played across Round 4 of the 2024 Toyota AFL Premiership Season.

The matches will run from Thursday 4 April through Sunday 7 April, with the fixture of matches to be announced later in the year.

After reviewing the success that was the inaugural Gather Round in 2023, Round 4 2024 was identified to enable greater fixture flexibility and greater ability to maximise interstate travel with the dates falling in the middle weekend of school holidays for Victoria, Queensland and Western Australia.

Announcing the dates early allows fans to start to book travel and accommodation ahead of the four days of matches.

Adelaide Oval will again be the centrepiece, with the regional venues and ticketing and premium event experience information to be confirmed at a later date.

A thread I have read on Twitter this morning :

98% of Hotel is gone in less than 3 hours. Down to my last room.

18 years in this industry in 3 years and ive never seen anything like it.

as a picture, Im probably the cheapest hotel this side of the CBD within 100m of Adelaide Oval - and these rooms have gone for at least 330 per night, without parking or meals or anything else.

Every booking is a minimum 3 day stay.

prices doubled from 12pm to 3.30pm....and still everything sold
