Down the Hill wrote:But worth runs and wickets with his work in the gully. Time for Marnus to open beyond Warner. We did it successfully with Langer, Watson, Katich & Ussie because the opener cupboard was bare at shield level. Marnus may be coming to the wicket early but he's faced 157, 80, 84 & 102 balls in his last 4 digs so the new ball isn't really the issue. And he's regularly faced that many balls in the 21 innings since his last 100. Green still struggling with the tempo he needs to bat at test level. But he's not alone with that issue coming in at 5/6. S.Waugh and Head also took some time to work out what works best for them. Green has made big runs batting at 4 for WA since moving up the order and seems to have the technique. Regardless of what we do in the next 2 tests we have a fairly soft test summer coming up and a chance to re-work the batting order. My top 7 would be.
Ussie
Marnus
Green
Smith
Head
Marsh (until injured) / Hardie
Carey
And 2 of Green/Marsh/Hardie will help extend the careers of the 3 main quicks.
Agree, the next Summer gives us a chance to get our top order right ready for the 25-26 Ashes.
Next summer is not for a blokes farewell tour.
