Spot on though.
We won the first two tests because our keeper was better, with gloves and bat.
Karma bus since that pivotal moment... and Bairstow is now the better bat, and after the last couple of innings, also the better keeper.

Ie....Massive change of fortune/skill set/concentration since that stumping...whilst his opposite number has stepped up.
Carey does not usually attract controversy and has clearly not coped well with the fallout since this episode.
Always been a quiet achiever, the spotlight has burnt him.

I see what you mean. The stumping was a turning point in the keepers' respective fortunes.

'Karma' just makes it sound like you think Carey deserves it for effecting the stumping.

It has clearly had a two fold effect... it stoked the fire in that big belly of JB, and it put the focus on Carey, and that does not befit his personality.
Was that momentary victory worth the subsequent attention and scrutiny?

We'll never know, but the stumping may have won us the match.

I'm just not sure how the concept of 'what goes around comes around' applies here.

Good day for the Aussies to win the toss and bowl England out for under 300 losing 7/99.
Murphy with some tidy figures.
Starc with 4 and bowled a peach to knock over Stokes.
Joe Root went past 6000 runs in England.
Good catching from Smith but some of the other fielding and catching attempts were very poor (5 catches dropped I think?).
With Woakes dismissing Warner it means that Broad can no longer match Glenn McGraths 19 dismissals of Michael Atherton in this series.

We should have rolled them for under 230 at worst. Will be interesting to see how we go with the bat tonight. More of a day 1 style Australian pitch with a touch of green to allow movement and a bit of zip. If we can bat long enough can see this being a peach to bat on over the next 2-3 days.

Aussies slightly on top.

What was a good day should have been a great day due to bang average fielding.

Warner has dropped a few this series which is further indication his eyes are 'going on him'. It's reflective with the bat as well, he has enough talent to get starts but age is catching up with him and the ability to not make a single error for a few hours just isn't there anymore.

One of the batsmen just has to go big this test.

Good to see Murphy pick up a couple of wickets.

Every time you think Carey has 'made it' as a test keeper he takes two steps backwards. Needs to bat well this test. Currently averages 23 with the bat and finishing the series poor behind the stumps. In fairness to him the shuffle to number 8 with the bat probably didn't help him.

5 dropped catches, although Smiths was a tough one.
Warner, Marsh and Murphy (off his own bowling) didn't really cost us.
Carers error hurt us big time.

Harry Brook is a very good talent. It remains to be seen if his pursuit of the Bazball gameplan stops him progressing to be the star he could be.

Handy start with the bat. Just need our lads to buckle down and have a couple go big.

Anything under 300 from the way they play, and batting first, is a win.
I think Australia are way in front here.

I don’t think the stumping is the issue I think the more logical explanation is fatigue from playing six test in less than 8 weeks.

However that’s just an explanation that catch should’ve been caught.

To the game now, we just need to bat smart and aim to be batting at lunch on Saturday.

That will put us 150 -200 ahead assuming we go at 3.5 to 4 an over for 110 overs (85 tomorrow and 25 in the 1st session on Sat)

That means if they want to win they have to push the envelop and we saw how that worked out last night!
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

This.
If you want to go quickly, go alone.

Potentially, Bairstow has played one less test but in the Ashes.....

Balls faced batting
Bairstow 301
Carey 344

Overs kept
Bairstow 697
Carey 510

Bairstow has kept for a whopping 1,100 more balls than Carey during the same period. I know Carey is away from home which is a big factor but Bairstow has got better and better as the series went on and looks like he put the pie cart out of business each day of the test.

Bairstow's shot to get out was deplorable, no footwork at all, just a slog.
I hope Carey makes 100.
