I know this may be early & footy season only finished a couple weeks ago but when do the fixtures normally come out for the following year?

Usually the week before Xmas or thereabouts.
If you want to go quickly, go alone.
If you want to go far, go together.

We always plan Melbourne trips around the AFL fixture whilst watching the Boxing Day test at Dads.
So I assume Boon might be on the money.

Re: AFL 2024
One more game at Mt Barker than last year and only the one double header.
Richmond v St Kilda at Norwood is crazy IMHO.

Re: AFL 2024
SIR Doug Nicholls Round will be launched on a Thursday night in Darwin next year, with Geelong to play a premiership game in the Northern Territory for the first time.
The AFL today announced a new agreement with the Northern Territory Government that will see three games played in the NT per season for the next three years – two by Gold Coast in Darwin and one by Melbourne in Alice Springs every year until 2026.
In 2024, the Suns will play back-to-back games at TIO Stadium in Darwin, against North Melbourne on the Saturday night of round nine (May 11) and against the Cats on Thursday, May 16 to start round 10, which is Sir Doug Nicholls Round.
The Demons will then play Fremantle at TIO Traeger Park on the Sunday afternoon of round 12 (June 2).

I think Norwood gets it for logistical reasons. Close to the city, bringing back the Norwood food and wine festival that weekend and can shut the Parade off and make a big market area. Gather around is all about the tourist dollars for the state after allBooney wrote:mighty_tiger_79 wrote:What are the AFL strict guidelines that ovals need to meet?

True, while parking is shit so is public transport. The Bay or Alberton (not while under redevelopment) make so much more sense.

Bay is undergoing redevelopment too which counts against it for next year
But yeah if its about tourist dollars the Bay is the logical site for a gather round game given the tram and hotels in the area. The Port with the train is certainly a better option if Port are playing one of the AFL marketing franchises (Gold coast or GWS).
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Their strategically placed shipping containers that block the view from the terrace in front of the Williams stand of the South west pocket and the riff raff in the bowling club
Genius

Anyone who goes there knows it isn't. Best surface in the SANFL by a mile.
It's easy to be flippant and just say "Alberton is a shithole", it's harder to admit you're wrong. Parking is never an issue, rail 500 yards away direct to the city, TAB in the bar metres from the play, redeveloped club rooms upstairs the best in the league and arguably the best playing surface in the state.

Re: AFL 2024
I was hoping Essendon would play a neutral team, I really enjoyed watching the game vs Melbourne last year.
I can watch us play a local side every season lol.

Re: AFL 2024
Parking at Norwood is an issue but otherwise it's clearly the superior option.
